Report: Jimbo Fisher’s son fighting rare blood disorder

In early April, Jimbo Fisher asked in a press release sent out by Florida State “for your prayers as our family is dealing with a very personal matter concerning the health of our youngest child.”

Monday, the university sent out another release stating that “Fisher and his wife, Candi, will be holding a news conference at Moore Athletic Center on Friday, August 5, 2011, to make an announcement regarding their son, Ethan’s health.”

According to a report by the the Associated Press Tuesday morning, the five-year-old is suffering from a rare blood disorder -- the specific disease was not identified -- and the press conference later this week will be in part to unveil a foundation to help fight the disease the little boy is battling. It’s expected the Fishers will announce they will be taking the lead, the AP writes, on the “educational and fundraising components” of the newly-created foundation.

In addition to Ethan’s parents, the physician responsible for his medical care will be in attendance to discuss Ethan’s treatment, as well as FSU athletic director Randy Spetman.
