Rutgers loses starting DE to season-ending injury

For the third time this season, Rutgers’ defense has been dealt a season-ending blow, head coach Greg Schiano announced Sunday.

According to Schiano, starting defensive end Michael Larrow suffered an ankle injury during the first play from scrimmage in Saturday’s win over Pittsburgh and will miss the rest of the 2011 season. Larrow underwent surgery this morning to repair the unspecified injury.

Schiano said the loss of Larrow will have a ripple effect given the other injuries the unit’s endured.

“It affects it in a big way,” Schiano said. “You look at it right now, we’ve lost three defensive players in the two-deep for the entire year with (David) Milewski, Mason (Robinson), and Mike (Larrow). Rashad Knight we haven’t had so really four — and I don’t know if Rashad is ever going to come back this year.

“It definitely — Mike was our starter — but it affects our depth. We just have to figure out a way of developing guys so when these things happen then you have a guy who is ready to go. And hopefully we can.”

With Larrow sidelined, junior Ka’Lial Glaud will likely get the starting nod.
