Sooner LB denied a sixth season

Thanks to a ruling by the benevolent governing body known as the NCAA, Oklahoma linebacker Ryan Reynolds’ collegiate career will come to an end following the Sooners’ bowl game.

Reynolds’ had filed an appeal to the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility, but head coach Bob Stoops confirmed yesterday that his hardship waiver had been denied.

The fifth-year senior’s Sooner career has been marred by numerous injuries, including a hamstring issue that kept the linebacker out of the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State.

Reynolds missed all of the 2006 season after incurring a knee injury in offseason workouts. In 2008, a knee injury in the sixth game of the year wiped out the rest of his redshirt junior season.

The good news, though, is that the strained hamstring should not keep him out of the bowl game against Stanford.
