Remember that report from earlier this week that said star South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney met with rap artist Jay Z, who has his own agency, Roc Nation Sports? And that by doing so, Clowney’s eligibility could maybe, possibly, be called into question? It’s been given the ol’ Naked Gun “nothing to see here” stamp of approval.
In a, ahem, “release” sent to ESPN’s Travis Haney, the university said Clowney “has not had any impermissible conversations nor has he received any impermissible benefits.”
It’s not an NCAA violation for an athlete to meet with an agent or a representative from an agency so long as no agreement on representation is made, verbally or in writing, or impermissible benefits are exchanged. South Carolina feels confident neither of those events occurred between Clowney and Roc Nation.
Clowney can meet with whomever he wants to discuss his future, and chances are he’s already done so with plenty of people interested in representing him one day. He just has to be careful about the topic of conversation when he does.
