Starting safety one of two Ok. St. players ineligible for opener

“Eligibility issues” will cost Oklahoma State a pair of players this coming weekend, head coach Mike Gundy announced Tuesday.

Starting free safety Johnny Thomas (pictured) and wide receiver Michael Harrison, the coach said, have been ruled ineligible for the opener Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette. Gundy would not divulge the specific reasons behind the eligibility issues, nor was he able to offer up a timetable for their returns.

“We’re going to treat this as if those guys were injured and somebody else just needs to step up in their places,” Gundy said.

Thomas started 11 games in 2010, including the final nine contests of the year. He’s played in 35 games total the past three seasons. Daytawion Lowe will likely slide into the starting spot until Thomas’ is eligible to return.

Anderson caught 12 passes for 216 yards last season, and is currently listed as a backup.
