The Sun Bowl was reportedly licking its chops over a match-up featuring Bob Stoops’ Oklahoma Sooners and Mike Stoops’ Arizona Wildcats.
The Brothers Stoops did not want that to happen. And, in the end, the coaching brothers’ wishes were respected.
After hearing Mike say that a Stoops Bowl “would be very uncomfortable for probably everyone”, and Bob echoing that sentiment with a “we’d prefer not to”, the Sun Bowl has decided to nix the idea of pitting the two siblings against each other.
“There’s a pretty good chance we’re going to get Oklahoma on the other end. If that were the case, and coach Stoops didn’t want to play his brother, we’d honor that,” bowl president John Folmer said according to the Arizona Daily Star.
Oklahoma would be the Sun Bowl’s Big 12 pick if Texas beats Nebraska in the conference championship game Saturday. Arizona will likely wind up in either the Holiday or Poinsettia Bowl.
