THE HEIR TO PAT WHITE?

Though WVU quarterback Coley White eventually will get a chance to follow in his big brother’s footsteps, the kid brother of Pat White might have some competition.Eugene Smith of Miramar, Florida has committed to the Mountaineers.The 6-4, 190-pound quarterback runs the 40 in 4.55 seconds, and was ranked No. 98 on ESPNU’s list of the top 150 recruits. Smith also was named a Parade All-American.Smith’s teammate at Miramar, receiver Stedman Bailey, also has inked with WVU.’'Now they are going to go to West Virginia and break records,’' Miramar coach Damon Cogdell told the Miami Herald. “They are going to be awesome there.’' Though Smith will start behind White and rising senior Jarrett Brown, Smith apparently is under the impression that he’ll get to compete right away for playing time.’'The coaches there were straightforward with me,’' he said. “They didn’t try to sugarcoat anything, and I was sold on West Virginia. The main thing was playing time and being able to play early. That was one of my priorities, but I liked everything about West Virginia.’'
