Tide has ‘a little bit of interest’ in Gamecocks’ OL coach

Yesterday, Ben noted that Alabama has spoken with UCF offensive line coach Brent Key regarding their vacancy at the same position.

Now, it appears Nick Saban is at least sniffing around an assistant from an SEC school as well.

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier acknowledged to Thursday night that “there’s a little bit of interest there” on the part of the Tide in his line coach, Shawn Elliott. The website wrote that they "[c]an’t confirm or deny if there is going to be an Elliott interview with Alabama.”

For his part, Spurrier “didn’t seem too concerned” about losing the coach, the site noted.

Elliott has been Spurrier’s line coach since 2010. It was his first and only job at the FBS level as he had spent his entire career up until then at Appalachian State, serving on that FCS staff from 1996-2009. He was the Mountaineers’ line coach for the final 10 years of his time at his alma mater before leaving for the Gamecocks.

The line position came open on Saban’s coaching staff a week ago when Jeff Stoutland left for the same job with the Philadelphia Eagles.
