When Mississippi State steps on the Davis Wade Stadium turf for the first time in 2013 Saturday, there’s a very good chance the Bulldogs won’t have their starting quarterback in tow.
Tyler Russell suffered what’s only being described by the school as a “head/neck” injury in the third quarter of Saturday’s season-opening loss to Oklahoma State. Head coach Dan Mullen has already ruled the quarterback out for practice this week and listed him as “doubtful” for the game.
While not officially ruled out, it doesn’t sound likely that Russell will be available for the home opener against Alcorn State.
“He might be cleared for the game and then we’ll make a decision if he’s cleared for the game,” Mullen said Monday.
Following the injury, Russell was replaced by Dak Prescott. The sophomore finished the game by completing seven-of-17 passes for 89 yards and an interception.
