It looks as though there could be some potential trouble brewing in Waco for the Baylor football program. According to a report from The Waco Tribune-Herald, a “prominent” Baylor football player is being investigated by Waco police for an alleged sexual assault against another Baylor student. The name of the player has not been reported as there has been no arrest made at this time.
The alleged incident occurred early Sunday morning. Per the report, Waco police were told by the suspect the sexual contact was consensual. Police also searched the unnamed player’s residence for items left behind by the alleged victim.A police affidavit for the search warrant said police were looking for clothing the woman left behind at the player’s residence, earrings, blood, semen, bodily fluids, hair, skin cells, DNA, bedsheets and other items.
Court documents indicate officers seized two comforters, a fitted sheet and a flat sheet from the suspect’s bedroom.
The two reportedly met at a local nightclub and they walked to the player’s residence. The police report suggests the woman was forced into a bedroom, where the alleged victim claims the player used force to remove her clothing and onto the bed where she claims to have been sexually assaulted.
Because no player has been arrested, there is no need for Baylor to act on the situation at this time. If a player is arrested, in which case we will then know which player is in question, it would be wise for Art Briles and Baylor to act swiftly and appropriately.
UPDATE 8:15 p.m. ET: It is being reported the Baylor player in question is NFL-bound Shawn Oakman.
