ESPN’s Joe Schad reported on Monday that Washington running back Bishop Sankey has decided to bypass his final year of eligibility and enter next spring’s NFL draft.
“The time is right,” Sankey said. “I’ve proven what I needed to prove. I have to look at the position I play and the number of carries.”
Sankey finished the season with 1,870 yards and 20 touchdowns, including 95 yards and two scores against BYU in the Kraft Hunger Bowl.
It’s hard to blame him for not coming back. His NFL evaluation projected he would be a third-round pick, but he can certainly move up in the draft if he performs well at the combine. Running backs only have a certain amount of carries in them and Sankey was one of only four backs to average over 25 carries per game in 2013.
