Updated: Weisman for Heisman? Iowa beats Minnesota

With the sting of an embarrassing loss to Central Michigan finally subsiding, Iowa has turned its attention to reclaiming the Floyd of Rosedale trophy back from Minnesota.

In a 31-13 win over the Gophers, the Hawkeyes did just that. Iowa leaned heavily on fullback Mark Weisman, who has rushed 21 times for 177 yards and a touchdown, to get the job done. As a result, that opened up Greg Davis’ playbook (LOL, WUT?!) for quarterback James Vandenberg.

There’s a lot of talk about guys like Geno Smith, Collin Klein, De’Anthony Thomas when it comes to the Heisman conversation. But given Iowa’s attrition at running back, perhaps no player means more to his team right now than Weisman.
