WVU reacts to death of Chris Henry

As you all probably heard by now, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry passed away early this morning after falling from the bed of a pickup truck.

Henry signed with West Virginia in 2002 and was one of the most explosive players in school history before being drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft.

“The entire Mountaineer football family is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Chris Henry,” head coach Bill Stewart said in a statement. “He is in my thoughts, as well as those of his former teammates, right now. We say ‘Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer,’ and Chris was a big part of our success during his time here. For me, he was a real joy to be around on a daily basis. He always came to work and loved to play football. Our hearts and prayers go out to his mother and family. He will be greatly missed.”

The father of three small children, Henry had reportedly turned his life around after after several issues both on and off the field in college and into the NFL.

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Henry’s family, friends, teammates and anyone else affected by his death.
