Shams Charania of The Athletic tweeted on Saturday morning that the Magic have waived Devin Cannady.
Cannady signed a full contract with Orlando after ending the season on a 10-day deal last year. He barely played in the preseason, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that they didn’t keep him around. As their preseason game ended against the Cavs on Friday, head coach Jamahl Mosley can be seen consoling Cannady as if they knew there was a chance that it was his final seconds playing for the team. It’s an emotional moment to watch, and we hope Cannady can find a different team to play for this season.

Devin Cannady signed a full contract with the Magic on Sunday after playing on a 10-day deal for the team.
Cannady has been solid in four appearances for the Magic this season and earned himself a contract. The terms of the deal were not announced, but even if he’s with the team next season, it’s unlikely he sees much playing time until the Magic start tanking again.

Devin Cannady hit 4-of-12 shots for 12 points, one assist, four triples, one block and one turnover across 28 minutes in Thursday’s blowout loss to Charlotte.
Cannady started the second half of today’s game with Mo Bamba (ankle) leaving early, but he was again extremely inefficient while he was out there. He’s been getting significant minutes in the rotation over the past four games, but he hasn’t been very impressive while he’s been out there, so we’d leave him on the waiver wire in most leagues.

Ignas Brazdeikis came off the bench to hit 8-of-16 shots and two 3-pointers for 20 points, six rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes of Tuesday’s 120-115 win over the Cavs.
He started the second half for Franz Wagner, who left early with a sprained right ankle and had his second-best game of the season. If Wagner is done IB is worth a look in most leagues. He’s quietly scored in double figures in five straight games but hasn’t blocked a shot since March 5. Robin Lopez had 11 points and four boards off the bench, Moe Wagner had 15 points and three 3-pointers, while RJ Hampton and Devin Cannady each scored 10 off the pine.

Cole Anthony (left toe sprain) has been downgraded to out against the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
It looks like the Magic will give him at least another game to rest up his toe. RJ Hampton should benefit from his absence, and Devin Cannady ended up playing 30 minutes off the bench in their last game. He came away with two steals and two blocks in that game. Both guys should see plenty of action for Orlando.

Devin Cannady shot 1-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from the line for four points on Sunday, but also had three dimes, two boards, two steals and two blocks in 30 minutes off Orlando’s bench.
The 6'2" Cannady doubled his career blocks total tonight. Cole Anthony started but didn’t return due to a left toe sprain, so the Magic backcourt may be even thinner in their final three games. If Anthony and Jalen Suggs (right ankle) miss more time, R.J. Hampton will be extra busy and Markelle Fultz should max out his minutes-allowance, with Cannady and Terrence Ross picking up any slack. Orlando didn’t turn to Gary Harris tonight, but he’s also a possibility to absorb minutes if the Magic don’t have healthy alternatives.

Cole Anthony (left toe sprain) will not return to Sunday’s game against the Knicks.
Anthony was originally listed as questionable for Sunday’s game due to his sprained toe, but he received the starting nod. Unfortunately he wasn’t on the court very long, heading back to the locker room after aggravating the injury. With Anthony done for the night, Markelle Fultz and Devin Cannady will see an increase in playing time.

The Magic have waived Devin Cannady.
He’s expected to head over to Orlando’s G League affiliate.

The Magic have signed free agent guard Devin Cannady, the team announced Tuesday.
Cannady spent the majority of his time with the Magic’s G League affiliate last season, helping lead the team to a league title. Unfortunately for the point guard out of Princeton, his brief run in the NBA came to an end back in April when he suffered an open fracture of his right ankle. Unless the Magic are hit extremely hard by injuries, Cannady isn’t going to offer fantasy value this season.

Devin Cannady suffered an open fracture of his right ankle on Sunday evening and will require surgery.
He came down after contesting a shot and it was extremely evident that he was in a lot of pain. Ankle surgeries like this one generally have around a six to eight-week recovery period, so we won’t see him again this year. We hope the 24-year old has a safe and speedy recovery.
