Cardinals designate Chris Roycroft for assignment

Burleson pinch-hit for José Fermín in the top of the seventh inning and blasted a two-run homer off Brewers reliever Bryse Wilson to tie the game at 4-4. It was the 25th homer of the season for Burleson, who also pushed his RBI total to 115 on the season with two games left to go. He now holds a two-RBI lead over Pete Alonso for the MLB lead.

Ortiz seemed to role his ankle while running the bases in the second inning. His limp then seemed to get progressively worse throughout the game before he was ultimately lifted late. It sounds like a day-to-day type of situation, but look for the Brewers to provide more clarity on Ortiz’s availability prior to Saturday’s ballgame.

Turang got the scoring started for the Brewers in the bottom of the first inning when he doubled to drive in Garrett Mitchell to put his team up 1-0. Turang’s two-RBI single in the bottom of the eight inning kick-started a four-run inning for the Brewers, which proved to be enough to secure the 101st win of the season for the Brewers. Turang is slashing .368/.484/.592 in September with 11 extra-base hits and 19 RBI and appears primed for the postseason.

It was one of the best outings of the season for Gasser, whose nine strikeouts set a new career-high. Gasser’s lone earned run came in the fourth inning when he allowed a solo homer to Ivan Herrera to tie the game at 1-1. Gasser would not allow another run or hit the rest of the way and has been tremendous heading into the postseason. The lefty ends the season with a 5-5 record and a 3.87 ERA, but has allowed just five earned runs over 27.0 innings while striking out 25 batters in September.

Volpe smacked a two-run ground rule double in the sixth inning that extended the Yankees’ advantage to 4-0. That would prove to be the difference in the ballgame. he has been sizzling at the plate since his return from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but with the return of Jazz Chisholm Jr. he’ll have to supplant Ryan McMahon at third base if he’s going to see meaningful playing time in the postseason.

Rice led off the home half of the first inning with a walk, but was cut down attempting to steal second base. He doubled in the seventh inning and ultimately came around to score on an RBI single by Luis Garcia Jr. With his two-hit night, the 27-year-old slugger is now hitting .264/.363/.534 with a whopping 41 homers and 97 RBI in 667 plate appearances on the season.

Warren allowed just three hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. He took over for Ryan Yarbrough in a scoreless game in the third inning and kept the Orioles off the board through the sixth. Warren got 13 swings and misses on 54 pitches on the night, registering an elite CSW of 44 percent. He concludes the regular season with an 11-6 record, 3.92 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 158/54 K/BB ratio over 156 innings in his 32 appearances (29 starts).

The 34-year-old hurler did allow four hits and a walk in the ballgame, but the Orioles were unable to push any runs across against him. Yarbrough got 14 swings and misses on just 49 pitches in the contest, registering a CSW of 39 percent. The veteran southpaw finishes up the regular season with a 3.69 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 49/23 K/BB across 63 1/3 innings in his 38 appearances.

After blasting a grand slam as the Orioles won the first game of Friday’s twin bill, Beavers tagged Alexander Cornielle for a 368-foot (105.1-mph EV) solo shot in the ninth inning of Game 2. That would be his only hit in five at-bats in the game. For the season, the 25-year-old outfielder is now slashing .228/.307/.373 with nine homers and 44 RBI in 363 plate appearances.

Young racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI double off the bat of Ryan McMahon in the fifth inning that broke a scoreless tie. Unfortunately for Young, that was enough to do him in. The 28-year-old righty got 14 whiffs on 82 offerings on the night, posting a solid CSW of 33 percent. He finishes the season at 9-6 with a respectable 3.56 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 133/61 K/BB ratio over 156 2/3 innings in 28 starts.
