Austin Wells (neck) homered twice in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Perhaps more importantly, Wells completed the full nine innings behind the plate in his second rehab contest. It’s possible the 26-year-old backstop will return to New York for Friday’s series opener against the Reds, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him play a few additional rehab games before coming back. He’s been on the shelf with cervical headaches since early June.
Sheehan is a buy-low option beyond surface numbers
Though Emmet Sheehan's surface numbers may not inspire much confidence, Eric Samulski believes saavy fantasy mangers could be on to something by making a move for him.

Francisco Lindor (calf) is scheduled to play another minor league rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Lindor will need at least one additional tune-up contest before returning to New York’s lineup later this week. The 32-year-old, who is working his way back from a calf strain, went 0-for-4 with a stolen base while playing the full game at shortstop on Sunday in his rehab debut. All signs still point to Lindor returning later this week.

Yimi García (elbow) has been shut down from throwing after experiencing renewed soreness.

García appeared to be on the precipice of finally rejoining Toronto’s high-leverage mix, but that’s on hold for now. There should be an update on his status at some point later this week. The 35-year-old has been brought along slowly while making his way back from last year’s elbow surgery. At this point it seems unlikely he’ll return until after next month’s All-Star break.

Eric Lauer will make a bulk relief appearance on Monday against the Twins.

Will Klein gets the ball as an opener for Los Angeles before turning things over to Lauer for a bulk outing. The 31-year-old lefty has delivered a respectable 3.22 ERA and 14/5 K/BB ratio across 22 1/3 innings since being acquired from the Blue Jays last month.

Jacob Young (side) is back in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Phillies.

Young is back patrolling center field and hitting fifth following a brief one-game absence due to side soreness. The 26-year-old managed to avoid serious injury on a brutal collision with the left-center field wall during Saturday’s showdown against the Rays at Tropicana Field. He’s been an unexpected power/speed combo source for fantasy managers this season with a career-high eight round-trippers and seven thefts through 74 games.

Spencer Jones is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Tigers.

Jones has seen his playing time slashed since Jasson Domínguez returned to New York’s outfield mix last week, starting just five times in eight games during that span. The 25-year-old’s all-or-nothing approach has yielded a pair of spectacular moonshots and a sky-high 40.6 percent strikeout rate across 64 plate appearances at the highest level this season.

Dodgers activated RHP Brock Stewart from the 15-day injured list.

Stewart has been limited to just a pair of appearances for the Dodgers this season due to foot and shoulder issues. The hard-throwing 34-year-old remains an extremely effective high-leverage option, when healthy, despite battling physical issues for the last few seasons. He’ll factor into Los Angeles’ late-inning mix while closer Edwin Díaz continues working his way back from elbow surgery.

Dodgers optioned RHP Chayce McDermott to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

McDermott heads back to the minors to free up a spot in the Dodgers’ bullpen for veteran Brock Stewart. The 27-year-old former prospect has allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings for Los Angeles since being acquired in a trade with the Orioles back in mid-April.

Astros recalled RHP Logan VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land.

VanWey joins Houston’s relief mix prior to Monday’s series opener against the Blue Jays north of the border with Bryan Abreu hitting the restricted list. The 27-year-old has tossed three scoreless frames for the Astros this season.

Astros placed RHP Bryan Abreu on the restricted list.

Abreu lost any semblance of fantasy value once closer Josh Hader returned from the injured list a couple weeks ago. The 29-year-old has struggled to a career-worst 6.39 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 33/24 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings this season. It’s unclear when he’ll return at this juncture given his rather nebulous placement on the restricted list, but it’s possible this is merely a visa-related issue with the Astros on the road in Toronto this week.

Reds manager Terry Francona said Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) will be activated from the injured list for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.

De La Cruz went 2-for-8 with a home run during a brief three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Louisville over the weekend. The electrifying 24-year-old shortstop will rejoin Cincinnati’s lineup after missing just over three weeks with a low-grade hamstring strain. He was hitting .280/.346/.509 with 40 runs scored, 12 homers, 37 RBI and 10 steals through 58 games prior to the injury. The biggest question mark surrounding his arrival is whether top prospect Edwin Arroyo will remain in the big leagues as part of their second base rotation or wind up being shipped back to Triple-A.
