Freeman is dealing with a back issue that will probably keep him out for a couple weeks. He’s hit .247/.317/.314 with three homers and six steals in 288 plate appearances this season.

Cole Carrigg is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday’s second half opener against the Reds.

The Rockies are battling a crowded outfield mix at the moment against right-handed pitching, so expect Carrigg to see the occasional day off as they attempt to work everyone in. Tyler Freeman will start in his place in right field and bat eighth for the Rockies against Brady Singer and the Reds on Friday evening at Coors Field.

Troy Johnston grounded out twice and struck out in his three at-bats Sunday against the Giants.

It’s a hitless week for Johnston, though he had just 12 at-bats in series against the Dodgers and Giants. He’s still batting .301/.374/.417 for the season, but as a platoon guy and a subpar defensive outfielder, he’s not really moving the needle for the Rockies. Depending on whether the Rockies trade some of their other left-handed bats, Johnston is a candidate to be phased out when the team decides to give Charlie Condon and maybe another youngster or two a look.

Rockies activated OF Tyler Freeman from the 7-day concussion injured list.

Freeman progressed through the concussion protocol after being drilled in the head by a 98-mph cutter from Jacob Misiorowski during last Saturday’s game. He’ll start in right field and bat second for the Rockies on Sunday against Athletics’ left-hander Jeffrey Springs.

Freeman heads to the concussion injured list after being hit in the head by a near triple-digit fastball from Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski during Sunday’s series finale. There is no timetable for his return at the moment.

It was a 98-mph cutter from Jacob Misiorowski that got him. Fortunately, Freeman was able to walk off the field without assistance. Sterling Thompson pinch-ran for him at first.

Tyler Freeman hit a two-run homer against the Angels in a losing cause Wednesday.

Freeman took Walbert Ureña deep to extend his hitting streak to eight games, and he’s up to .277/.353/.380 for the season. It was his third homer in 157 plate appearances, giving him one more than he had in 428 plate appearances last year.

Freeman is back in right field and hitting second after a one-game absence due to lower leg soreness. The 27-year-old outfielder has been locked-in at the plate recently, hitting .400 (10-for-25) with one RBI and one steal over his last seven games.

Freeman returns for Tuesday’s game against the Rangers after spending a couple days away from the club on paternity leave. The 26-year-old corner outfielder has hit .253/.330/.345 with two homers, 12 RBI and four steals across 101 plate appearances over 27 games this season.

Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday that Cody Bellinger (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday.

Bellinger will play in rehab games on Tuesday and Thursday — likely at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre — before being re-evaluated. If all goes well, he could be cleared to rejoin the Yankees’ lineup for their weekend series against the Blue Jays. The 31-year-old slugger has been shelved since late July due to a left hamstring strain.
