Freeman has only been sidelined since August 9 due to pain in his lower back, so he shouldn’t need too many at-bats there before he’s ready to rejoin the big league roster. It’s possible that he could be ready to join the Rockies before the weekend is through.

Tyler Freeman will start in his place in right field and bat eighth for the Rockies against Brady Singer and the Reds on Friday evening at Coors Field.

Freeman progressed through the concussion protocol after being drilled in the head by a 98-mph cutter from Jacob Misiorowski during last Saturday’s game. He’ll start in right field and bat second for the Rockies on Sunday against Athletics’ left-hander Jeffrey Springs.

Freeman heads to the concussion injured list after being hit in the head by a near triple-digit fastball from Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski during Sunday’s series finale. There is no timetable for his return at the moment.

Freeman took Walbert Ureña deep to extend his hitting streak to eight games, and he’s up to .277/.353/.380 for the season. It was his third homer in 157 plate appearances, giving him one more than he had in 428 plate appearances last year.
