Mariners designated INF Miles Mastrobuoni for assignment.

The 30-year-old infielder hit just .217 (5-for-23) with no homers and one RBI in 27 plate appearances over eight games with the M’s. He could pique another team’s interest on waivers.

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said that Roman Anthony (sprained wrist/hand) “hasn’t made any substantive progress while the Red Sox have been away.”

Anthony has apparently tried to swing a lighter bat, but hasn’t gotten to a real hitting progression. He’s eight weeks into an 8-12 week timeline for his sprained wrist and torn ligament in his ring finger. At this point, with the Red Sox struggling as badly as they are, we’d expect Anthony to take at least the remaining four weeks on that timeline. That puts him back after the All-Star break.

The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports that Francisco Lindor (calf) will return for Game 2 of the doubleheader on Wednesday against the Cubs.

Lindor has been out since late April with a calf strain, so the Mets will love to have him back. The only issue is that Juan Soto may not have to head to the injured list with a back injury. Soto and Lindor have only played nine games together so far this season.

Rockies placed RHP Jaden Hill on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 21, with right shoulder tendinitis.

Hill has earned the Rockies’ last two saves, so this is bad timing for him. The 26-year-old has a 5.06 ERA overall in 26 2/3 innings on the season. Antonio Senzatela and Victor Vodnik are better bets for saves while Hill is out, but no one in the Rockies pen seems worth rostering right now.

Rockies recalled RHP Seth Halvorsen from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Halvorsen might be the Rockies’ most talented reliever, but he’s had a tough time throwing strikes this year, walking 14 in 16 1/3 innings. He does have a 3.31 ERA anyway, but it’s going to be tough trusting him with leads right away.

Cubs selected the contract of RHP Vince Velasquez from Triple-A Iowa.

Velasquez made one appearance for the Cubs back in April, his first in the majors since 2023, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings before being designated for assignment and clearing waivers. The 34-uear-old has made six starts and four relief appearances for Iowa, amassing a 6.15 ERA and a 40/25 K/BB in 33 2/3 innings. He last worked five days ago, throwing 73 pitches, so if nothing else, he can provide some length in today’s doubleheader.

Hollowell was just sent down yesterday, but the Cubs have had two roster spots open up since. He’s allowed two runs and walked five in 3 2/3 innings for the Cubs this season.

Cubs placed RHP Ben Brown on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain.

The Cubs having to place both Ben Brown and Edward Cabrera (hamstring) on the injured list on the same day is quite a blow. They’ll get Matthew Boyd (knee) back tomorrow, but this rotation will still be super short-handed. The hope is that Brown won’t be sidelined for much longer than his two weeks.
