Connor Prielipp allowed six runs — three earned — over six innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Prielipp falls to 2-5 on the season with the loss. The 25-year-old allowed nine hits and three walks, and the four strikeouts obviously didn’t make up for all of that traffic. Prielipp was certainly hurt by his defense as well — in this case an error by Brooks Lee — but the overwhelming majority of the blame goes to the former University of Alabama ace. Prielipp shouldn’t be near fantasy lineups next week in a scheduled start versus the Dodgers.

A sensational outing for Prielipp; one that saw him generate a whopping 20 swings-and-misses over 93 pitches. The two runs came on an infield single in the first, and an RBI knock in his sixth and final frame. Prielipp has been more down than up in his first taste of MLB action, but Sunday was a proof-of-concept for one of the better pitching prospects in the Minnesota system. He’ll try and match — or come close to it — those results Saturday against the Yankees.

It sounds like Ryan is feeling well enough to take the ball against Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday at Target Field after being scratched from Tuesday’s start due to illness. The 30-year-old’s return will push Connor Prielipp back to Friday’s series opener against the Rockies. There could be some changes depending on whether Tuesday night’s contest is played with showers in the forecast.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
Prielipp didn’t seem long for this one after giving up a two-run homer to the second batter he faced in the first and two more runs in the second, but he hung around and kept the Twins in the game despite managing just two strikeouts and giving up 12 hard-hit balls. He wound up leaving with the score tied after six, only to immediately watch the Cardinals hit three homers in a five-run seventh. Prielipp remains 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA. He should stay in the rotation for now and face the D-backs next week, but a move to the pen could be a possibility at some point if the Twins get some injured starters back.

Prielipp gave up four hits, walked one and struck out seven. He fell to 2-4 with the loss. Prielipp had a quick hook after only 77 pitches as he was pulled with one out in the fifth inning. The move backfired on Twins manager Derek Shelton as his chosen reliever Andrew Morris allowed three runs. Prielipp has a 5.15 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Cardinals at home next weekend.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
Prielipp gave up six hits, walked two and struck out seven. He improved to 2-3 on the season. Prielipp and the Twins fell behind early in the game as a throwing error by Minnesota and a two-run single by Miguel Vargas gave the White Sox the first three runs of the game. The Twins would come back to win 6-4 with Prielipp striking out seven in six innings. He’s lined up to face the Royals at home on Sunday.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
After notching three strikeouts in the first inning, Prielipp got hit around a bit in the second inning, giving up four singles, with the most costly coming on a two-RBI knock by Sam Antonacci. Prielipp would run into more trouble in the third inning after allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base, only for Colson Montgomery to drive home Miguel Vargas to put the White Sox up 3-1. Prielipp would be pulled with two runners on and one out in the fifth innings, but wound up being charged for two more runs after exiting. After a strong start to his season, Prielipp has now allowed 11 earned runs in his last two starts. He’ll get a chance to make up for this disastrous outing in his next start, which is scheduled for Monday at home against the White Sox.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
After walking Jarren Duran to start the game, Prielipp surrendered an RBI double to Wilyer Abreu two batters later to put the Red Sox up 1-0. That was just the beginning of a tough first inning for Prielipp, who allowed the next three runners he faced to reach base and had his team down 4-0 after the first inning. The Red Sox would touch up Prielipp for two more runs in the fourth inning, as the lefty struggled to keep runners off the base paths all night while notching a single strikeout. This was easily the worst outing of the season for Prielipp, who had allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his previous five starts. He was fortunate to escape this game with a no-decision and will hope for a bounce back in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday at the White Sox.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
Prielipp has allowed one or two earned runs in all five of his starts to date, but he has only a 1-2 record to show for it. His eight strikeouts tonight were a new high. He’s definitely a mixed-league option at this point, but he’s not a great play in a one-start week against the Red Sox in Fenway next weekend.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #52
The Twins are going to push rookie Connor Prielipp’s next start back a couple days in an effort to manage his workload. Matthews will get the call to fill the spot in Minnesota’s rotation vacated by Taj Bradley (pectoral) after he hit the injured list last weekend. The 25-year-old has compiled an inflated 4.72 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 33/11 K/BB ratio across 34 1/3 innings over seven starts for Triple-A St. Paul this season. He struggled to a bloated 5.56 ERA over 79 1/3 innings across 16 starts with the Twins last year. He’s an intriguing talent, but the results haven’t been there consistently enough for fantasy managers to trust him as a streaming option, even against a relatively weak Marlins lineup.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #61
It was a disastrous start to the game for Prielipp, who saw the first three batters he faced on the day reach base via a single, a hit by pitch, and an error. Steven Kwan came home to score on the error that allowed José Ramírez to reach base, and a sac fly by Rhys Hoskins gave the Guardians an early 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Prielipp would surrender a two-run homer to Travis Bazzana to push the Guardians’ lead to 4-0, but he would settle in to pitch four scoreless frames and was fortunate enough to have only one of those four runs count against him in the earned runs department. Prielipp has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his four starts this season and saw his ERA lowered to 3.32 on the season with Friday’s outing. He’ll look to rebound from this tough loss in his next start, which is scheduled for Thursday against the Marlins.

James Wood went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Tuesday in a win over the Red Sox.

Wood came through with a game-tying RBI single in the fifth inning before giving Washington a commanding one-touchdown lead in the eighth inning with an RBI double to center field that put the metaphorical cherry on top of a three-hit performance.

Cade Cavalli recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts and was charged with one run — zero earned — over seven innings on Tuesday in a win over the Red Sox.

Cavalli authored one of the most dominant outings of the season, retiring the final 19 batters he faced after Willson Contreras reached on a fielding error in the opening frame. A leadoff double from Anthony Seigler was the only hit he allowed. He was at the epicenter of a bench-clearing donnybrook a couple frames later that resulted in Contreras being ejected, while Cavalli avoided a similar fate despite appearing to spark the incident. The 27-year-old former top prospect generated an eye-popping 25 swinging strikes, including 15 on his four-seamer alone, and touched 99.6 mph in an otherworldly performance. He’ll face the Astros at home on Monday.

Trea Turner had a two-run homer and an RBI double in the Phillies’ 8-0 shutout of the Pirates on Tuesday.

That makes for a fun 33rd birthday. Turner has homered in back-to-back games and scored in six games in a row. Over the last two weeks, he’s hit .345 with 16 runs scored and seven RBI in 13 games.

Despite dealing with a blister, Cristopher Sánchez shut out the Pirates for seven innings and struck out nine on Tuesday.

Sánchez got checked out by the trainer in the second after he was seen wiping blood on his pants. Fortunately, though, the blister didn’t seem to be in a particularly bad spot. It might have somehow even helped his changeup, which he was throwing harder than usual. He used it 44 times tonight and got 15 of his 23 whiffs with the pitch. Sánchez moved to 10-3 with a 2.00 ERA. He’s still one win behind Aaron Ashby for the major league lead, but he is the first starter to double figures. He’ll likely face the Royals on Monday.

Bubba Chandler yielded five runs in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Phillies.

That’s pretty much the same line Braxton Ashcraft had in a win for the Pirates last night, but Ashcraft wasn’t matched up with Cristopher Sánchez and this turned out to be an 8-0 loss for the Pirates. Chandler struck out six, but he managed just seven whiffs on 51 swings and a 22 percent CSW. It still seems like Chandler, who topped out at 101.5 mph tonight, will find another gear at some point, but there isn’t much to be encouraged about in his numbers. He’ll likely face the Nationals on Sunday.

Justin Crawford finished 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI against the Pirates on Tuesday.

Crawford hit a two-run homer off the Rockies’ Jimmy Herget on May 8. That might not seem particularly notable or relevant here, but that was his only multi-RBI game in his rookie season before he drove in three runs with two singles tonight. He now has 19 RBI to go along with a .256/.308/.347 line in 260 plate appearances on the year.

Esmerlyn Valdez failed to homer Tuesday but did go 2-for-3 with a walk in the shutout loss to the Phillies.

The rest of the Pirates combined for three hits and two walks against Cristopher Sánchez and company. Valdez had homered in four straight games coming into the night.

Riley Greene went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI on Tuesday, leading the Tigers to a 9-3 blowout win over the Yankees.

Greene spearheaded Detroit’s unexpected offensive explosion against Yankees rising ace Cam Schlittler by taking him deep in the first and third innings for his first multi-homer performance of the year. It hardly feels like a coincidence that Greene erupted with an epic power display after receiving his first day off of the entire season during Monday’s series opener. The 25-year-old middle-of-the-order force is slashing .288/.378/.450 with 43 runs scored, 11 homers, 37 RBI and one steal through 85 games.

Ben Rice slugged a solo homer on Tuesday in a loss to the Tigers.

Rice was one of the few bright spots for New York on a relatively miserable evening as he took Tigers ace Tarik Skubal deep in the opening frame for his 23rd long ball of the season. He struck out in two of his final three at-bats of the one-sided affair.

Tarik Skubal recorded nine strikeouts and was charged with two runs — one earned — over six innings on Tuesday in a win over the Yankees.

Skubal was handed a four-run cushion before he even took the mound at Yankee Stadium and proceeded to carve through New York’s lineup, with a first-inning solo shot from Ben Rice accounting for the only hit he allowed over six frames. He piled up nine punchouts for the second consecutive start against the Yankees and boasts a 30/2 K/BB ratio across 22 1/3 innings since returning from elbow surgery. The 29-year-old fantasy ace is expected to be one of the central figures in trade deadline discussions over the coming weeks. He’ll face the Athletics in another home start on Tuesday.
