Miguel Vargas is out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers.

Vargas takes a seat for the first time since May 20. The 26-year-old has put together a phenomenal season as one of Chicago’s primary catalysts, slashing .237/.354/.467 with a career-high 16 home runs, 44 RBI and 10 steals in 323 plate appearances over 74 games. A quick break to recharge both mentally and physically makes a ton of sense since he’s been scuffling recently, hitting .111 (3-for-27) over his last seven games and has just three homers since the start of June. It’ll be rookie Jacob Gonzalez getting a look at the cold corner in his place.

Miguel Vargas went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in Friday’s loss to the Guardians.

Vargas blasted a three-run homer off Guardians starter Gavin Williams in the fifth inning to give the White Sox a 3-1 lead. It was the 20th homer of the season for Vargas, who continues to put together a career year as he’s now sitting on 20 homers and 54 RBI with just over a week to go before the MLB All-Star break.

Jacob Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI as the White Sox took down the Orioles 9-3 on Tuesday.

A week ago, Gonzalez was hitting .163 and seemed like a lock to be sent down to the minors once Munetaka Murakami came off the IL, if not before. However, his last six games have seen him go 11-for-24 with four doubles, a homer and 12 RBI, putting him at .260/.340/.397 in 82 plate appearances overall. He’s still not promised anything, but given that he can play anywhere in the infield, he now certainly has a chance of sticking around once Murakami comes back.

Jacob Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with three RBI on Monday, propelling the White Sox to an 8-2 win over the Orioles.

Gonzalez got the White Sox on the scoreboard with an RBI double into the right-center field gap off Orioles starter Shane Baz in the third inning. He padded Chicago’s lead with a two-run single off Orioles reliever Yennier Cano in the ninth inning. The 24-year-old rookie got off to a slow start after arriving in the big leagues, but he’s been in a groove lately, hitting .333 (8-for-24) with one homer and nine RBI over his last seven games.

Miguel Vargas homered and doubled in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

Vargas reached all four times, as he also drew two walks. The 26-year-old has 19 homers on the season — this one a two-run shot off Luinder Avila in the first inning — and he’s driven in 52 runs; putting him right around a 100-RBI pace on the season. It took a while, but Vargas is starting to show why he was considered such an elite prospect when he was a member of the Dodgers.

Miguel Vargas went 3-for-6 with a home run, double, two runs scored, and five RBI in a ridiculous 22-1 rout of the Royals on Friday.

This was an all-time blowout. Vargas got the White Sox going with a three-run home run that started their 10-run third inning. He chipped in another run-scoring double in that same frame and one last RBI in the seventh when they already had 20 runs home. In all, they hit five home runs as a team and did all of their damage against real pitchers. Infielder Tyler Tolbert actually turned in a scoreless eighth inning when all the dust had settled. Baseball can be a funny sport sometimes. As for Vargas, that home run was his 18th on the season as he looks to put the finishing touches on his All-Star resume.

Miguel Vargas went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Guardians on Tuesday.

Vargas’ home run was his 17th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Parker Messick to put the White Sox ahead 2-1 in the sixth inning. Vargas was hitting .250 with three home runs in 18 games in June entering play Tuesday. He’s hitting .237 with an .820 OPS and 45 RBI this year.

Jacob Gonzalez went 0-for-3 in his fifth straight hitless game Tuesday against the Yankees.

Gonzalez started off 8-for-24 with a homer though eight big-league games, but with this 0-for-15, his OPS has dipped from .887 to .593. He still probably has a couple of weeks to show what he can do, but he’ll need to fare pretty well to avoid getting sent down when Munetaka Murakami comes off the IL.

Jacob Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Phillies.

What a moment for Gonzalez to hit his first career home run. He launched a 428 foot blast off Phillies’ starter Andrew Painter into the upper deck at Citizens Bank Park to extend his squad’s lead to 6-0. Now, after one week of major league action, Gonzalez is 6-for-19 with four RBI, two walks, and four strikeouts as Munetaka Murakami’s replacement at first base. After years of minor league struggles, the former first round pick credits a change to his swing mechanics that’s helped him find significantly more power. His batted ball data at Triple-A back up that story and he’s an incredibly interesting player.

Miguel Vargas went 1-for-4 with a two-run single against the Twins on Tuesday.

Vargas had a two-run single in the top of the third inning to give the White Sox a 3-0 lead in a game they would eventually lose 6-4. He now has 40 RBI on the season. Vargas is hitting .241 with an .861 OPS, 44 runs, 15 home runs and nine stolen bases.

Miguel Vargas collected two homers, a double and four RBI against the Twins on Monday.

Vargas’s 383-foot double in the first would have been a homer in 11 ballparks. In Target Field, though, it probably would have been caught by a plus center fielder. The Twins, though, had Kody Clemens out there with Byron Buxton limited to DHing. Vargas now has 15 homers in 257 plate appearances this season. That’s one fewer than he had in 569 plate appearances last year and two more than he had in 591 career plate appearances prior to 2025.

Bohm is batting .273 with 10 homers and 31 RBI in his last 49 games. He’s still not guaranteed to be especially valuable going forward, but with the Phillies committed to hitting him in the middle of the order, he has a legitimate shot at 100 RBI in his final year before free agency.

That Luzardo’s bad outings have been particularly bad denied him an All-Star gig, but he’s 7-4 with a 3.75 ERA after tonight, and the Phillies are 12-6 in his starts. He walked none in this one and has a 125/33 K/BB through 103 1/3 innings. He’ll likely make his next start Thursday in Philadelphia.

Wacha as an All-Star makes a lot of sense if maybe he’s Kansas City’s only representative, but Bobby Witt Jr. is the team’s starting shortstop. Wacha is going to his second All-Star Game anyway, though there seemed to be better picks available. He’s 5-6 with a 3.45 ERA ahead of his final start of the first half against the Mets.

Freddie Freeman hit a solo homer and drove in two runs in a win for the Dodgers on Saturday over the Padres.

Freeman also singled and a walke for a three-reach day. He gave the Dodgers all the offense they’d need with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Los Angeles bullpen breezing through the San Diego lineup when he connected on his 15th homer of the campaign. He also singled in a run, and he’s up to 49 RBI while improving his line to .297/.387/.508. Regression comes for everyone at some point. It doesn’t appear to be coming for Freeman anytime soon.

Will Klein worked a scoreless ninth and struck out two to get a save against the Padres on Saturday.

Klein had some shaky outings in June as seen in a 4.32 ERA over the month, but for the most part, he’s been one of the more effective relief hurlers on the Dodgers. It’s the second save of the season for the 26-year-old, and while it’s far from a guarantee he’ll see more, he’s looked the part when given the opportunity. He also has already picked up 11 holds, so his appeal in leagues that value that statistics is obvious.

Griffin Canning worked four innings and allowed just one run, but he still picked up a loss against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Canning worked behind Wandy Peralta — who fired a scoreless inning before exiting — and while Canning does take the loss, it appeared to work. The right-hander was able to strike out four against two walks, and he was able to generate a respectable nine swings and misses over 73 pitches. Canning still has an unsightly 6.71 ERA, but he’ll get a chance to lower that Thursday in a scheduled appearance against the Diamondbacks. It seems awfully likely that one will be working behind an opener, too.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 10 over seven shutout innings to lead the Dodgers to a 3-0 victory over the Padres on Saturday.

Yamamoto was brilliant, allowing just three hits and two walks to go with the aforementioned punchouts. He generated 16 swings and misses over exactly 100 pitches, and six of those came on a splitter that the Padres simply couldn’t handle. That’s now 13 quality starts for Yamamoto over 16 chances, and his ERA is now an outstanding 2.49 over that timeframe. He was named an All-Star prior to Saturday’s victory, but his final start before that game comes Saturday against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

He’s also done a solid job behind the plate, and the 23-year-old has given no reason to believe he won’t be the long-term answer behind the plate for the Marlins, with all due respect to Agustin Ramirez.

In addition to the two-run jack, Lopez also added an RBI double. He’s been remarkable in 2026, and those three knocks now give him a .341 average with a .506 slugging percentage that shows there’s been plenty of hard contact between the dinks and dunks for the 27-year-old. It’s more than fair to wonder when the regression is coming, but Lopez just keeps hitting, and he’s passing the eye test in the process. He’s more than deserving of the first All-Star selection he procured prior to Saturday’s win.
