White Sox activated RHP Jordan Hicks from the 15-day injured list.

Hicks returns to Chicago’s relief corps for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers following a one-month absence recovering from a lat strain. The hard-throwing 29-year-old was one of the worst relief pitchers in baseball between the Giants and Red Sox last year when he posted an abysmal 6.95 ERA across 67 1/3 innings of work. He’s been marginally better in his White Sox debut with a pedestrian 5.60 ERA over 17 2/3 innings.

Brent Rooker (knee) remains shut down from baseball activities.

Rooker remains in a holding pattern after hitting the injured list with a bone bruise in his left knee back on June 12. The 31-year-old slugger remains without a definitive return timeline. There was optimism he would be ready to return after a minimum stay on the shelf, but that didn’t end up happening.

Rafael Devers is at first base and hitting cleanup in Tuesday’s series opener against the Athletics.

Giants president Buster Posey told reporters that Devers and manager Tony Vitello had a conversation following a bizarre incident where he tried to wave off a pinch-runner during the ninth inning of Sunday’s loss to the Marlins. The 29-year-old slugger doesn’t appear to be facing any discipline from the club for his actions. He’s been at the epicenter of trade speculation and figures to be on the move by the trade deadline in early August.

Phillies re-signed RHP Jackson Rutledge to a minor league contract.

Rutledge returns to Philadelphia on a new deal after passing through waivers unclaimed and being released last week. The 27-year-old former first-round selection was hit hard in his lone appearance for the Nationals earlier this season and holds a bloated 6.29 ERA across 103 innings in the majors since 2023.

Rangers signed C Austin Wynns to a minor league contract.

Wynns provides Texas with some emergency catching depth at Triple-A Round Rock behind Kyle Higashioka and Elias Díaz. The well-traveled 35-year-old backstop went 4-for-53 at the dish during a 20-game run with the Braves earlier this season.

Joe Ryan (illness) will start Wednesday’s series finale against the Dodgers.

It sounds like Ryan is feeling well enough to take the ball against Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday at Target Field after being scratched from Tuesday’s start due to illness. The 30-year-old’s return will push Connor Prielipp back to Friday’s series opener against the Rockies. There could be some changes depending on whether Tuesday night’s contest is played with showers in the forecast.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said he expects Bobby Witt Jr. (knee) to be available off the bench on Tuesday against the Rays.

Witt remains out of Kansas City’s lineup for the fourth straight contest due to a low-grade MCL sprain in his right knee. However, it sounds like he could be available for a big spot during Tuesday’s showdown at Tropicana Field. The 26-year-old franchise cornerstone took grounders during pregame warmups and appears likely to avoid a trip to the injured list at this juncture.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro told reporters Cole Ragans (elbow) is likely to undergo surgery.

Quatraro added that Ragans is set to visit another specialist before determining his next steps. The exact procedure, and whether he’ll be able to return this season, remain unclear. Given the circumstances, it’s increasingly unlikely he’ll make any meaningful fantasy impact in the second half. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since early May with an elbow impingement, and there’s a significant possibility his season is over.

Mets claimed OF Jared Oliva off waivers from the Giants.

Oliva fortifies New York’s outfield depth at Triple-A Syracuse after being cut loose by the Giants over the weekend. The 30-year-old hit .143 (1-for-7) with one steal in seven games before undergoing surgery to repair a hamate fracture back in mid-April.

Masyn Winn was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Diamondbacks with left thumb soreness.

It doesn’t sound like a significant concern since Winn was in the club’s initial lineup. The 24-year-old shortstop has been seeing the ball well recently, hitting .393 (11-for-28) with one homer and five RBI over his last seven games.

Kyle Tucker (back) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Twins.

Tucker receives some extra time off to rest and recover after making an early exit from Monday’s series opener in Minnesota with lower back spasms. He told reporters that he’s pretty confident he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list, which is mildly encouraging at least. The 29-year-old fantasy stalwart has scuffling at the dish recently, hitting .196 (21-for-107) with just two homers and three steals over his last 30 games. It’s possible a brief reset could help him regain his timing and get back on track at the plate. It’ll be Alex Call taking over in right field on Tuesday night in his place.
