Asked to close out the Cubs, Jordan Hicks took his second blown save after giving up a run in the ninth on Monday.
The White Sox were staying away from both Grant Taylor and Sean Newcomb tonight, so Hicks came in with two outs and the tying run on second in the eighth. He struck out Seiya Suzuki then, but in the ninth, he walked two and gave up a game-tying hit to Nico Hoerner before striking out Miguel Amaya and getting Carson Kelly to ground out to preserve the tie. The save chance was Hicks’ first since March 30, when he secured one by getting four outs with a five-run lead. He’s probably not going to emerge as the White Sox’s first choice for saves at any point, but he’s earned himself work in close games with his 1.33 ERA in 20 1/3 innings since coming off the IL in June.
