Zack Gelof (hand) is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Giants.

Gelof appears to have avoided serious injury when his right hand was stepped on by Matt Chapman during Tuesday’s series opener, which subsequently ended his 24-game hitting streak. Athletics manager told reporters afterwards that Gelof is day-to-day after X-rays didn’t reveal any fractures and he didn’t require stitches. The 26-year-old has been phenomenal since the start of June, hitting .329 (23-for-70) with five homers, 10 RBI and two steals during that span. It’ll be veteran Jeff McNeil taking over at the keystone on Wednesday evening.

The rookie has struggled of late, slashing .140/.189/.220 in his last 15 games with a 15/1 K/BB ratio. He’s been mostly solid in his first MLB season, but there remains a chance that the A’s could move Zack Gelof back to the outfield when he returns from his knee injury and keep Tommy White active in the infield. Bolte’s playing time does not seem as guaranteed as it was a few weeks ago.

Zack Gelof (knee laceration) “will begin baseball activities on the side after stitch removal on July 21st.”

Gelof has been out since July 9th after cutting his knee on the outfield fence while making a sliding catch. The Athletics will want to see how his knee handles running and other baseball movements before determining how quickly he can get back into game action. He likely won’t need many rehab games before rejoining the Athletics’ lineup.

Athletics placed INF Zack Gelof on the 10-day injured list with a right knee laceration.

Gelof cut his knee up pretty bad on a sliding catch last night in Detroit. Gelof had sort of swung between third base, second base, and left field since returning from the IL a few days ago, pushing Jeff McNeil (illness) into a bench role. McNeil will likely be more involved at second base over the weekend, pushing Joshua Kuroda-Grauer to third.

Zack Gelof was removed from Thursday night’s battle against the Tigers in the third inning after injuring his knee while crashing into the outfield wall.

Gelof made a terrific sliding catch running down the third base line, but slid into the side wall as he did and came up hobbling. He tried to walk it off and remain in the game but ultimately the decision was made to pull him. Gelof will head for further evaluation. Expect the A’s to provide an update on his status after the game.

Athletics optioned 3B Max Muncy to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Since coming off the injured list on June 8th, Muncy has hit .210/.296/.387 with three home runs, 13 RBI, and a 29.6 percent strikeout rate in 20 games. He has a 9.5 percent barrel rate over that stretch, but is not making consistent enough contact, and with Tyler Soderstrom and Jacob Wilson back off the IL, the Athletics had no room for Muncy. They will likely move forward with Zack Gelof as their primary third baseman.

Athletics activated INF Zack Gelof off the 10-day injured list.

Gelof missed just the minimum stint on the injured list after suffering a hand laceration near the end of June. The 26-year-old was starting to swing a hot stick, and is worth fantasy consideration for those needing help in the middle infield.

Zack Gelof (hand) has started gripping activities.

Gelof had his hand stepped on by metal cleats last week and landed on the 10-day injured list on June 25th. Gripping activities will progress to swinging a bat when they feel that Gelof’s grip strength has returned enough. Then, provided his hand can withstand the impact of hitting, he should be able to quickly return to game action since he has not been out of the lineup long. However, we need to wait and see when he can begin hitting.

Gelof suffered a hand laceration and contusion during Tuesday’s game against the Giants, and the 26-year-old will now miss at least a week with the ailment. If there are no setbacks, it seems feasible that Gelof will be back in the early portion of July.

It’s a massive relief for the Athletics and fantasy managers that initial X-rays didn’t reveal any fractures after Gelof was stepped on by Matt Chapman at second base during Tuesday’s game at Oracle Park. He figures to need some time off to recover but it sounds like Gelof managed to avoid serious injury.

Zack Gelof made an early exit from Tuesday’s series opener against the Giants with an apparent right hand injury.

It’s a tough break for Gelof as his 24-game hitting streak comes to a close after Matt Chapman stepped on his throwing hand while sliding into second base in the second inning. He immediately left the game after getting inadvertently spiked on the play, finishing 0-for-1 at the plate. There should be an update on his status after the contest.

The Cardinals never had a late-inning lead in the 10-inning loss to the Reds, but it was surprising not to see O’Brien in the tie game at some point. As it turned out,there was a good reason. Consider him day-to-day.

2026 second-round pick Logan Schmidt announced Sunday that he will not be signing with the Guardians.

Interestingly, Schmidt did not mention his LSU commitment in his Instagram post announcing the decision, suggesting that he might be thinking about going to junior college and then reentering the draft next year. Schmidt, a left-handed pitcher, was viewed by many as a first-round talent before slipping to the 59th overall selection on draft day.

Cheng goes to make room for Curtis Mead on the active roster. He hit .256/.318/.282 in 44 plate appearances while helping to fill in for Trevor Story and Marcelo Mayer. Andruw Monasterio will serve as Boston’s everyday shortstop for now. Romy Gonzalez is probably the backup, though he hasn’t played the position in two years. Ceddanne Rafaela would probably be the better option, in truth.

Nathaniel Lowe went 3-for-5 and drove in two in the 10th in the Reds’ 5-3 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Sal Stewart singled in the go-ahead run in the 10th before Lowe broke it open, giving the Reds a 5-2 lead. The Cardinals then scored just the automatic runner in the bottom of the inning. Incredibly enough, it’s Lowe’s very first three-hit game of the year. He’s been pretty good in batting .258/.333/.475 in 249 plate appearances, and he’d seem to be a particularly likely candidate to be moved before next week’s trade deadline.

He walked four but allowed just three hits. Abbott has three quality starts in his last four tries, but he’s now gone six straight starts without winning. One imagines there will be more of that in August and September if the Reds sell prior to the deadline. He’ll face the Pirates next.

Working with a three-run lead, Garcia gave up back-to-back singles with one out but then retired Masyn Winn and José Fermín to end the game. Garcia, a 31-year-old rookie, has a 2.93 ERA in 15 1/3 innings since being called up last month. He could be part of a committee situation in the ninth if the Reds trade closer Emilio Pagán before the deadline.

Burleson’s double to right center in the second was hit 388 feet and would have been a homer in 16 ballparks, according to Statcast. He’s eighth in the majors with 116 hits, tied for fourth with 26 doubles and tied for sixth with 71 RBI.
