Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters Blake Dunn (elbow) will undergo further evaluation.

Dunn is heading back to Cincinnati to undergo additional evaluation and imaging after leaving Friday’s game against the Pirates in the sixth inning with elbow discomfort. He’s served as Cincinnati’s primary top-of-the-order table-setter since late May. It’s unclear whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but it seems likely ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Brewers. There should be an update on his status later this weekend.
Flora becomes first SP taken in 2026 MLB Draft
By adding UC Santa Barbara's Jackson Flora with the fourth overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the Giants are getting a pitcher with off-speed offerings that are the "best" among this year's draft class.

Dunn was pulled from Saturday’s game after experiencing discomfort in his elbow. Still no word from the Reds on how long they expect the 27-year-old outfielder to miss, but it’ll be at least a week and a half. TJ Friedl was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move to take his place on the club’s active roster.

De La Cruz has gone 1-for-9 at the dish across three games since returning from the injured list earlier this week. The 24-year-old fantasy superstar moves atop Cincinnati’s lineup for the first time this season after mostly hitting second or third. It’s possible this is merely one-game change with typical table-setter Blake Dunn sitting out due to an elbow injury. It’s a situation worth monitoring for the next couple days.
  • CIN Right Fielder #59
On a night where the Reds managed just four hits, Dunn was responsible for two of them. Dunn is slashing a respectable .273/.322/.382 on the month while serving as the Reds’ leadoff man and has also swiped four bases on five attempts.
  • CIN Shortstop #2
Arroyo moves up to the leadoff spot with Noelvi Marte taking over in center field with Blake Dunn receiving an off day in this one. The 22-year-old top prospect has hit just .227 (5-for-22) with one RBI in 10 games since being called up from Triple-A Louisville earlier this month. His opportunity to carve out a permanent spot on Cincinnati’s roster, likely as their primary second base option, is fading quickly with Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) progressing towards a minor league rehab assignment.
  • CIN Right Fielder #59
This is Dunn’s first game on the bench since May 19th, starting in 18 straight games in the outfield. Over that stretch, he has hit .284/.318/.383 with one home run, nine runs scored, four RBI, and three steals. He’s more of a deep league asset given that he hits leadoffs in one of the best offensive environments in baseball. Dane Myers will start in center field and bat seventh on Wednesday.

Dunn’s homer was a two-run blast off Stephen Kolek that tied the game in the fifth. The Reds have cycled through leadoff hitters this season, but Dunn has occupied the spot in 10 of their past 11 contests. The lineup isn’t as dangerous without Elly De La Cruz, but it’s a nice role to have with a great home park to hit in and summer weather approaching.
  • CIN Center Fielder #17
Myers hasn’t come off Cincinnati’s bench since last Friday due to illness. The 30-year-old reserve outfielder is presumably available, if needed, after getting a couple days off to rest and recover. Blake Dunn will continue handling center field and leading off for the Reds.
  • CIN Right Fielder #59
Here’s something you don’t see everyday: a batter coming to the plate six times in a game where their team only scored two runs. Just about the only way to do that is by stranding 17 runners on base like the Reds did here. Dunn contributed to that number himself too, by making two outs with runners in scoring position including a game-ending strikeout with the bases loaded. Nevertheless, this was his fourth straight game hitting lead-off – against a mix of right and left-handed pitchers – and he has instant fantasy value in that role.
  • CIN Right Fielder #59
Dunn occupies Cincinnati’s leadoff spot for the fifth straight contest and is slashing .311/.380/.467 with one homer, two RBI and two steals in 15 games since coming up from Triple-A Louisville. There’s nothing in the 27-year-old’s extensive track record in the upper minors that suggests he’s be a highly impactful fantasy contributor as a power/speed combo threat, but he’s likely to remain a strong batting average source based on his ability to maintain a high BABIP thanks to his athleticism. There’s some limited fantasy appeal in deeper mixed leagues, especially if he’s going to stick in the leadoff spot ahead of Cincinnati’s middle-of-the-order mashers.
  • CIN Right Fielder #59
Dunn’s game-winner was credited as a fielder’s choice. He got a soft liner past the pitcher, and Spencer Steer, who was on third, was able to score just ahead of Masyn Winn’s throw from shortstop. Still, Dunn did have two singles earlier, and he went 1-for-3 in the matinee. He’s batting .351/.400/.541 in 40 plate appearances, and he seems poised to play regularly in the Reds outfield until he slows down.

After getting a second opinion on his sore elbow, Ryan Helsley said he has inflammation around his UCL but the ligament itself is intact.

That’s relatively good news. Helsley will keep resting for now and then aim for a return down the stretch. One imagines he’ll be down for at least another month, and since the Orioles might get Félix Bautista back in September, it probably doesn’t make a lot of sense to hold on to Helsley in shallow leagues. Andrew Kittredge seems to have supplanted Tyler Wells as the favorite for saves in Baltimore’s pen for now. The team could trade for another option before the deadline.

Dodgers selected SS Bo Lowrance with the 40th pick of the 2026 MLB draft.

The Dodgers had their first pick dropped from 30th to 40th because of their spending habits, but they’re getting a real interesting playing here. MLB Pipeline had Lowrance ranked as the No. 21 player in the draft and actually dropped a Freddie Freeman comparison. Lowrance is a 6-foot-5, left-handed hitter who hasn’t tapped into his power potential yet but should in time. He’s unlikely to remain a shortstop for long, but he might be able to stick at third.

Yankees selected LHP Hunter Dietz with the 35th pick of the 2026 MLB draft.

Despite being hit with a 10-pick penalty for spending money, the Yankees were able to select the draft’s No. 17 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline’s rankings. After missing much of his first two years in college with a stress fracture in his elbow, Dietz had a 3.57 ERA and a 131/31 K/BB in 85 2/3 innings for Arkansas this year. At 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, he has the look of a future workhorse, and he possesses the mid-90s fastball to back it up.

White Sox selected SS Landon Thome with the 34th pick of the 2026 MLB draft.

This is the selection the White Sox acquired from the Pirates in the Jacob Gonzalez trade last night. Thome goes to one of his dad’s teams; Jim hit 134 of his 612 career homers for the White Sox from 2006-09. MLB Pipeline had him as the draft’s No. 34 prospect, so this lines up perfectly. Thome is being drafted as a shortstop, but he’ll probably wind up at second or maybe third, which was his father’s original position. He’s not going to be a 40-homer guy or anything close to that, but he’s a left-handed bat with a strong all-around game.

Giants selected LHP Carson Boleman with the 29th pick of the 2026 MLB draft.

The Giants selected the first pitcher off the board with the No. 4 overall pick and got another quality arm at No. 29, which was the pick they received from the Guardians in the Patrick Bailey trade. Viewed as a potential top-10 pick entering the year, Boleman was a little bit of a disappointment in his final season in high school, but he has four pitches, including a really good curve, and can reach the mid-90s.

Dillon Dingler (hand) is back in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Phillies.

Dingler is back at DH following a two-game absence due to right hand soreness. It’s an extremely encouraging development for the Tigers that he managed to avoid serious injury. All signs point to him being ready to play in next week’s All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

Chase Burns is dealing with groin soreness.

It sounds like Burns made the decision to bow out of next week’s Midsummer Classic for precautionary reasons to avoid missing any time coming out of the break. It’s a situation that fantasy managers should monitor closely, but the extra time off should help him be ready to take the ball to open the second half. He was replaced on the National League’s roster by Dodgers lefty Justin Wrobleski.

Zack Wheeler told reporters he declined an invitation to be added to the National League’s roster for the MLB All-Star Game.

Wheeler added that he felt disrespected and didn’t want to be the fifth choice after the league finally reached out on Friday to offer him a spot on the senior circuit’s roster as a replacement. The 36-year-old veteran should’ve been in the Midsummer Classic much sooner in the process after putting together a remarkable first-half performance in his return from last year’s surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome, posting a sublime 2.28 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 98/20 K/BB ratio across 87 innings over 14 starts since April 25.

Jacob Gonzalez is not in the lineup for the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Brewers.

It’ll be Jared Triolo drawing another start at shortstop with Gonzalez presumably available off the bench for the nightcap of Saturday’s twin bill against Milwaukee. The 24-year-old infielder was picked up in a trade with the White Sox on Friday night. He’s likely to step in as Pittsburgh’s starting shortstop in place of an injured Konnor Griffin (finger) until early September.

Brewers selected Corona HS (CA) SS Trey Ebel with the No. 25 selection of the 2026 MLB Draft.

Ebel is the final pick of the “actual” first round. He’s also the brother of Brady Ebel, whom the Brewers selected in last year’s draft. Nepotism isn’t always bad. Ebel is a slight reach in terms of board value, but shows an above-average hit tool, and he should be able to stick at shortstop. There’s questions about the power, but Milwaukee will have plenty of time to work on adding some to a player who doesn’t turn 18 until September.
