Bassitt has been on the IL with back soreness since June 8. Orioles GM Mike Elias said Bassitt will be reevaluated in a “couple of weeks” to see if he can resume throwing. One imagines he’ll be sidelined into August.

Jackson Chourio is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

It appears to just be a day of maintenance for Chourio, and it’ll be his first day off since the start of June. The 22-year-old gets a break with Jake Bauers earning a nod in left field for Saturday’s contest.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that the team is “hopeful” Shohei Ohtani (biceps) will return to the lineup against the Padres on Sunday.

Roberts said that Ohani is feeling “considerably better” after dealing with biceps discomfort that will keep him out of Saturday’s game against San Diego. There’s even a chance Ohtani could be available off the bench, but Roberts said he would need to see how the rest of the day goes. Even if he doesn’t return to the lineup this weekend, it does appear that this is mostly precautionary. It still remains to be seen if he’ll make another start as a pitcher before the All-Star break, however.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Evan Phillips (elbow) will come off the 60-day injured list before Sunday’s game against the Padres.

Phillips has missed all of 2026 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old will likely be eased into work after missing the first three months of the campaign, but should be a high-leverage option in the second half of 2026. Just keep in mind that save chances won’t be guaranteed.

Cubs designated RHP Bryse Wilson for assignment.

The Cubs need room on the active and 40-man roster, so Wilson is out to clear space for Jake Woodford. Wilson will hit the waiver wire, and teams could show interest in the 28-year-old as a potential multi-inning relief option.

Cubs signed RHP Jake Woodford to a one-year contract.

Woodford opted out of his deal with the Brewers earlier in the month, and the 29-year-old finds an MLB deal not long after. He’ll get a chance to help the Cubs’ pitching staff as a potential multi-inning bullpen option in the middle frames.
