Padres ship Will Wagner back to Triple-A

Pereira told reporters X-rays came back negative for any fractures after being hit by a pitch on the left hand during Friday’s contest. The 25-year-old outfielder has a chance at avoiding a trip to the injured list if he’s able to return to game action at some point in the coming days.

There hasn’t been any reporting to indicate that Winn is dealing with any physical issues, as the Cardinals continue rolling with JJ Wetherholt at shortstop with José Fermín at second base in this one.

Bericoto gets his opportunity atop San Francisco’s lineup to face lefty Patrick Sandoval after Drew Gilbert spent a couple days in that spot earlier this week. The hard-hitting 24-year-old has homered four times in 31 games during his rookie campaign, but lacks the on-base skillset of a traditional top-of-the-order table-setter. Still, he figures to get some chances against left-handed starters down the home stretch.

Mushinski will stick around with Colorado as emergency left-handed relief depth after going unclaimed on waivers. The 30-year-old allowed just two runs over 6 2/3 innings for the Rockies prior to being designated for assignment earlier this week.

Waldron heads to his third different organization this season after being cut loose by the Blue Jays earlier this week. The 29-year-old figures to operate in a swingman-type role for the Nationals over the final five weeks of the season. He’s posted a bloated 7.54 ERA across 37 innings of work in the big leagues this year.

Early’s odds of returning before the end of the season took a major hit when he experienced forearm tightness during a live batting practice session earlier this month. The 24-year-old has been out with posterior elbow inflammation since late June and remains without a clear return timetable following this latest setback. The procedural move opens up a spot on Washington’s 40-man roster to claim starter Matt Waldron off waivers.
