Jung Hoo Lee is absent from the Giants’ starting lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Rockies.

Lee has been in a bit of a funk at the plate, going just 7-for-44 with one extra-base hit over his last 12 games, so the Giants will give him a night off to clear his head. Drew Gilbert will start in his place in center field and will bat eighth for the Giants against Ryan Feltner and the Rockies.
Murakami's return gives White Sox a 'jolt'
James Schiano talks about the impact "rookie superstar" Munetaka Murakami can make upon his return to the Chicago White Sox, where he can strengthen Chicago on and off the field.

Jasson Dominguez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in New York’s win over the Nationals on Friday.

Dominguez took a Zack Littell sinker out to right-center field to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning, then singled and scored in the ninth inning on Jazz Chisholm’s homer. The 23-year-old is now hitting .346/.393/.615 in his last seven games with two homers and a stolen base. He’s not exactly a must-roster at this point, but he’s a talented player getting a real chance with Aaron Judge out, and he may be getting hot at the right time.

James Wood went 3-for-5 with a go-ahead solo home run in Washington’s loss to the Yankees on Friday.

Wood joined Keibert Ruiz in going back-to-back off Yankees left-hander Tim Hill in the seventh inning to give the Nationals the lead. He also scored on a leadoff double in the third, scoring on a Dylan Crews double play ball. Wood, now hitting .391/.588/1.087 in his last seven games, with four home runs and two stolen bases, is very good at baseball.

Matt Krook blew a save in the ninth inning during Washington’s loss to the Yankees on Friday.

Sure. Krook entered the game with a 14.54 ERA and was just claimed on waivers from the Athletics last Saturday. Clayton Beeter came in during the eighth inning to extinguish Paul Goldschmidt and save Tom Cosgrove from a blown save. Instead of letting Beeter face Cody Bellinger, Jasson Dominguez and Jazz Chisholm, Drew Butera went to the left-hander. Weird how going to the guy with the huge ERA works out. Butera is the only one who knows how this bullpen will go, is one thing that’s clear.

David Bednar threw two scoreless innings and picked up the win in New York’s win over the Nationals on Friday.

He sat down six Nationals batters in order despite striking out nobody. The Yankees were taxed from a bullpen game last night and had already used Fernando Cruz, the other pitcher who didn’t throw yesterday, earlier in the game. Bednar came in with the Yankees behind 3-2 in the eighth, then Jazz Chisholm staked the Yankees to the lead in the ninth and Bednar was able to finish things off in the bottom of the inning for a win. Not exactly the save we were hunting for, but it surely doesn’t hurt your fantasy team.

Zack Littell pitched four innings of bulk relief against the Yankees on Friday, scattering five hits while allowing one run.

He left with a one-run lead, turning it over to the Nationals bullpen after Carson Palmquist went three innings in front of him. Then what usually happens with the Nationals pen happened, depriving Littell of a win. Littell allowed a solo shot to Jasson Dominguez, but that was it. He finishes the first half with a 4.90 ERA. He has some deep-league streaming appeal going forward, especially if he keeps following.

Ryan Weathers pitched 5 1/3 innings against the Nationals on Friday and allowed one run while striking out six.

Weathers was fortunate to get out of a jam in the third inning with a double play ball that traded runners on first and third and nobody out for a run and a double play. Fernando Cruz came on in the sixth inning with runners on first and third (after C.J. Abrams stumbled on his way home and had to go back to third) and struck out two batters to preserve Weathers’ chance at a win, which Tim Hill promptly coughed up in the seventh. Weathers barely threw his fastball at all, as just 18 of his 91 pitchers weren’t sweepers, sliders, or changeups. He allowed four hard-hit balls. He’ll enter the second half of the season as a respectable 12-team starter going forward with a 4.15 ERA and a baffling 3-7 record.

Grayson Rodriguez allowed six hits and three runs with one walk and zero strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win in a 4-3 victory over the Twins on Friday.

Seemingly uncomfortable with his breaking balls, Rodriguez completely trashed them away here. While his slider and curveball have combined for about 25% of all the pitches he’s thrown this season, he threw just nine total in this 79-pitch outing. In turn, his fastball, changeup approach didn’t earn a single strikeout and most plate appearances were a grind. Still, he pitched well enough to earn the win and will close the first half with an ugly 7.55 ERA.

Kirby Yates allowed one hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save against the Twins on Friday.

It’s been a bit difficult for Yates to get in a groove since very few save opportunities come up for the Angels. Still, he locked this one down and has only allowed one run over his last 12 appearances. It’s been easy to overlook that he’s actually having a fine season with a 3.00 ERA across 24 appearances, but just three saves.

Vaughn Grissom went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI on Friday against the Twins.

Grissom got the Angels going in the fourth inning with a solo home run off Twins’ starter Zebby Matthews and drove in their final run in the following frame with a sacrifice fly. He could be working his way into an everyday role again with his third straight here and sixth in the Angels’ last nine games.

Brooks Lee went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI, and one walk on Friday against the Angels.

Lee continues to produce. His second double of this game cut the Angels’ lead to 4-2 and put the tying runs in scoring position with just one out. The Twins would push one more run across, but sadly never tie this game back up. Nevertheless, Lee has kept his head above water all season with a .744 OPS to go along with 14 home runs and five stolen bases as we approach the All-Star break.
