Tyron Guerrero got five outs in the fifth and sixth innings Thursday against the White Sox and wound up with his first MLB victory since 2019.

What a find Guerrero has been for Boston. In his first MLB action since 2019, he has a 2.45 ERA and a 23/2 K/BB in 18 1/3 innings since being called up in late May. The walk rate is simply astounding. Guerrero has always had a great arm, but he couldn’t establish himself in the majors previously because of control issues. He improved there during his time in Japan, but even so, he still walked nine percent of the batters he faced for Chiba Lotte last year. Right now, he’s at three percent. Guerrero is 35, but if he keeps throwing strikes, he could well help the Red Sox beyond 2026.

Red Sox selected the contract of RHP Tayron Guerrero from Triple-A Worcester.

What a great story and moment for Guerrero. The 35-year-old has not pitched in an MLB game since 2019 as a member of the Miami Marlins. After that, he missed a season during the COVID year, played in the minors in the White Sox organization, went to Japan, got another chance in the Reds organization, went to play in Mexico, got a chance in the Angels organization, went back to Japan, and then got a minor league deal with the Red Sox this winter. In 19 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season, Guerrero has a 0.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and a 22/6 K/BB ratio while touching triple digits on the radar gun.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports that the Red Sox plan to promote right-hander Tayron Guerrero from Triple-A Worcester prior to Friday’s series opener against the Twins.

No word yet on the corresponding move(s) that the Red Sox will make to the roster. Guerrero, 35, holds a scintillating 0.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 22/6 K/BB ratio across 19 2/3 innings in 15 appearances at Triple-A Worcester this season. He’ll bolster the club’s middle relief corps.

Red Sox reassigned INF Vinny Capra, C Jason Delay, OF Braiden Ward, LHP Alec Gamboa and RHPs Tayron Guerrero and Kyle Keller to minor league camp.

Capra was in Red Sox camp as a non-roster invitee and failed to land a spot on the club’s season-opening roster in a bench role. Delay is merely emergency catching depth while Guerrero and Keller could be up as stopgap relief options at some point later this year.

Red Sox signed RHP Tayron Guerrero to a mionr league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 35-year-old hurler hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2019 season. He spent the 2025 campaign toeing the slab for the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball where he registered a 3.60 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and a 46/23 K/BB K/BB ratio across 50 frames. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Red Sox.

Tayron Guerrero signed a one-year deal with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball.

The deal will pay the 6-foot-8 right-hander $600,000. Guerrero will head overseas after spending 2024 in the Angels’ organization. The 33-year-old could be back with an MLB club with a strong showing overseas, but he hasn’t pitched in the majors in five years.

Angels signed RHP Tayron Guerrero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Guerrero was pitching in relief in the Rays system in 2023 but was released in June after posting an 11.51 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and 20/22 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings (20 appearances) for Triple-A Louisville. He then headed to the Mexican Winter League with the Naranjeros of Hermosillo, where he pitched to a 1.10 ERA in16 1/3 innings with 26 strikeouts and also he has the fastest pitch of the season at 101.6 MPH. He will look to impress his new organization in the spring but seems most likely to operate as bullpen depth.

Guerrero signed a minor league contract back in March and winds up heading back to the free agent waters after posting an inflated 11.51 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and 20/22 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings (20 appearances) for Triple-A Louisville. The 32-year-old righty hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2019 campaign.

The latest batch of cuts trims the Reds’ camp roster to just 45 players. Guerrero, Herget and Duarte represent organizational relief depth, while Martin is also likely to stick around at Triple-A Louisville as extra depth.

He’ll compete this spring for a spot on Cincinnati’s Opening Day roster.

Guerrero made 112 relief appearances with the Marlins over two seasons from 2018 to 2019. The towering, hard-throwing 30-year-old righty reliever recorded a bloated 6.63 ERA, 2.21 WHIP and 25/12 K/BB ratio across 19 innings at Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox’ minor-league system this past season.

Kyle Schwarber will participate in the 2026 Home Run Derby.

He’s the second Phillies player to join the field in the last two days, as he and Bryce Harper are joining Willson Contreras, Jac Caglianone, Junior Caminero, and Ben Rice. There’s room for one more player. Schwarber led the league in homers last year (56) and currently is leading MLB again this year with 32 while hitting .254/.369/.571. The 33-year-old star will undoubtedly be one the favorites to win the derby.

Twins activated C Ryan Jeffers off the 10-day injured list.

Jeffers should slot right back into the main catching role for the Twins and be an acceptable catcher off the bat in 12-team leagues. It’s worth noting that hamate injuries often sap power going forward, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Jeffers lost a few points off his slugging percentage going forward. Still, he’s been a good enough hitter that the Twins will be thrilled to play him again.

McLain’s calf injury helps the Reds activate Ke’Bryan Hayes. McLain was day-to-day with the calf as of last night. McLain has hit a disappointing .190/.293/.328 in 309 plate appearances this year, though he has provided 11 stolen bases and eight homers along the way. Managers in deeper leagues can probably cut bait at this point if they have better options on the wire.

Hayes will likely be in the lineup tonight with Matt McLain on his way to the injured list. Fantasy leaguers should probably maintain a wait-and-see approach with Hayes after his abysmal early-season struggles. There’s a non-zero chance we see some passable fantasy production from Hayes, as we have in flashes over the years. He’s hard to count on at this point.

Smith has been sidelined since June 11 with a neck injury, and while he’s begun swinging, it sounds like the Dodgers are going to handle this situation very carefully. Dalton Rushing should continue to be Los Angeles’ main catcher and be a viable starter in 12-team leagues while Smith is sidelined. The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya believes the Dodgers view this as “an extended development period” for Rushing.

Fansided’s Robert Murray reports that the Brewers have signed RHP Bryse Wilson.

No word yet on the type of contract, but we’d assume it’s a major league deal. Wilson has become a full-time reliever but has a 6.52 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this season for the Phillies and Cubs. Of course, he pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the Brewers back on June 28th, so they must have seen something they liked then.
