Luis García Jr. sits against southpaw on Friday

Warren struck out seven and walked one in the 98-pitch outing. He pitched into the eighth but was removed after a couple of Boston hitters reached base. The Yankees took three of four against the Sox this weekend with the win, and they claimed the season series. That affects home field in the Wild Card round if the two rivals finish with identical records. Warren lowered his ERA to 4.23. He was nearly squeezed out of the rotation in recent weeks, and he still figures to pitch out of the bullpen come October. But he certainly showed his value as a starter. He’ll visit the Padres at Petco Park in his next scheduled appearance.

Suarez allowed two walks and only struck out two. He had made it through four scoreless before things unraveled in the fifth, though there was a questionable umpiring decision involving Ceddanne Rafaela on a ball he appeared to catch. Rafaela was ruled to have “trapped” the ball even after review. That led to a two-run hit from Paul Goldschmidt, followed by a Heliot Ramos three-run homer. The Yankees took the season series with the victory. That could affect home-field advantage in the Wild Card Series if the two rivals finish with identical records. Suarez is scheduled to face the Orioles on the road next time out.

Ramos’ playing time against right-handers has been squeezed since Cody Bellinger returned from the injured list, but he hit third or fourth in all three games against a lefty in this weekend’s series with Boston. The former Giant has struggled with his new team, but he hit his first homer as a Yankee in a five-run fifth inning on Sunday. There was a controversial call on a ball that Ceddanne Rafaela appeared to catch, but the center fielder was ruled to have “trapped” it instead. A two-RBI hit from Paul Goldschmidt followed, before Ramos connected for a three-run homer off Ranger Suarez.

Goldschmidt broke a scoreless tie by driving in two in the fifth inning. He then came around to score on Heliot Ramos’ three-run homer. Later in the game, the veteran first baseman connected for a solo shot, his 18th of the year. Goldschmidt has started just six times in August, all against lefties. He’s hit first or second in those games, however, making him a strong DFS option whenever the Yankees face a southpaw.

The two thefts give Chisholm 40 on the season, tying a career high with a month left to play. It has certainly been impactful for fantasy leagues, but it has come with a .227 batting average and without outstanding runs and RBI totals. Prior to the season, Chisholm talked about going 50/50 in his free-agent walk year, and he has a good chance of getting there with the steals. He’s been limited to 18 homers, however, after finishing with 31 last year.

The lone run came in the ninth after Matthews gave up singles to two of the three batters he faced. Jeff Hoffman came in and allowed an RBI single before finishing the game. Matthews struck out five. He finished with a subpar 21 percent CSW and gave up 10 hard-hit balls, so it wasn’t really a dominant outing. It was an awfully effective one, though, and it should help ensure that he sticks in the rotation after Joe Ryan returns. He’ll face the White Sox again next weekend.

Unfortunately, the White Sox were already down 4-0 after Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in the first and Tyler Gilbert allowed one run in the third. Urquidy did his part, but the White Sox offense never got back into the game. With Davis Martin having rejoined the rotation, the White Sox no longer need both Urquidy and Erick Fedde starting or bulking in separate games. Perhaps the two could piggyback against the Twins on Friday, but the team is probably best off playing it by ear.

Keaschall’s homer was his ninth, five of which have come this month. With one day to go, he’s hitting .326/.404/.558 in August.

Lewis has just one extra-base hit, one run scored and three RBI in the span, but at least he has gone 3-for-3 stealing bases. Today’s showing dropped his OPS under .700 to .695. At this point, it’s worth wondering if he’s entering his final month as a Twin.

Murakami got too far under the ball today, hitting flies with launch angles of 40, 54 and 72 degrees that all combined had a .010 xBA. Since hitting his 29th homer on Aug. 18, he’s 4-for-41 with no RBI in 11 games.
