Pirates re-signed OF Dominic Fletcher to a minor league contract.

Fletcher exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the team back on July 2, but after exploring the free agent market, he decided to return. Fletcher has hit .276/.366/.493 with eight long balls, 29 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 44 games at Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He’ll continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Bucs.

James Schiano discusses Cleveland Guardians righty Gavin Williams' recent adjustment to his sinker and how it's produced an uptick in strikeouts after he notched 11 for a third straight start.

Jack Leiter intends to throw off a mound Saturday as he works to return from ankle surgery.

Leiter had loose bodies removed from his ankle a month ago. If all goes well, he could rejoin the Rangers rotation for the final month of the season.

Burch Smith is being reevaluated after experiencing a setback with his shoulder during an appearance for Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Even though the Yankees are facing a lefty in the Phillies’ Jesús Luzardo, Max Schuemann is on the bench for a fifth straight game on Friday.

Schuemann (.906) has a far better OPS against lefties than Jasson Domínguez (.693), José Caballero (.657), Anthony Volpe (.657) and Amed Rosario (.656), but he wasn’t picked over any of them tonight. He has just three at-bats so far in the second half.

Jakob Marsee is back in center field on Friday after getting a rare day off against a right-hander on Wednesday.

Even though he’s the Marlins’ best defensive center fielder, Marsee could be at some risk of getting demoted when Owen Caissie comes off the IL. He’s currently in a 1-for-18 slump and is hitting just .192/.313/.287 overall. He’s also turned into a non-factor on the basepaths of late, going just 1-for-2 in steals in his last 24 games. He had 18 steals in his first 74 games, which kept him semi-relevant in fantasy leagues in spite of his struggles.

Rangers signed LHP Anthony Veneziano to a minor league contract.

The Rangers signed Veneziano to a minor league deal in December but then released him a month later when he wanted to go pitch in Korea. That didn’t work out very well, as he posted a 6.10 ERA in 16 starts for the SSG Landers. He’ll probably resume working as a reliever now that he’s back in the U.S. He had a 3.98 ERA in 40 2/3 innings over 40 appearances with the Royals, Marlins and Cardinals from 2023-25.

Athletics recalled RHP Luis Morales from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Morales had a 7.18 ERA in 52 2/3 innings with Las Vegas, including nine starts, where he allowed 10 home runs. He had some promise before the season, but considering how he’s pitched this year we’re not itching to get him active in any fantasy leagues.

Athletics optioned RHP Yunior Tur to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Tur carried a 47.25 ERA in two games pitched with the Athletics. It just seems mean to go deeper than that. He’ll try to get back on track at Las Vegas.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not in New York’s starting lineup against the Phillies on Friday.

He’ll likely pinch-hit later, after LHP Jesús Luzardo leaves the game. José Caballero is handling second base in Chisholm’s absence, and we’ll see what kind of pitch clock violations ensue.

José Ramírez is not in Cleveland’s starting lineup against the Rays on Friday.

It’s likely just a little extra rest after the Guardians played 12 innings yesterday. Gabriel Arias is batting seventh and playing third base against LHP Shane McClanahan.

Daylen Lile is not in Washington’s starting lineup against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

The Diamondbacks are starting LHP Eduardo Rodriguez and Lile, a left-handed hitter, is batting just .161/.212/.355 over his last eight games. His on-base percentage on the season has fallen under .300, so he’s been the rare Nationals disappointment so far this year.
