Orioles sign Kyle Bradish to $90 million extension

Bradish allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four on a cool 10 days’ rest tonight. He was originally supposed to pitch Sunday but was pushed back after signing his five-year extension Saturday and then his scheduled start Tuesday was rained out. Bradish is 4-2 with a 2.03 ERA in his last six starts. He’ll pitch in Detroit next week.

It’s been pouring in Boston for most of the afternoon and the decision was made not to take any chances. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Wednesday instead. There’s a chance that Ranger Suarez (groin) will be activated to take the ball during the twin bill, but that isn’t official yet. It was going to be Eduardo Rivera starting on Tuesday night in his place. Orioles starter Kyle Bradish will be pushed back to the doubleheader.

This means Bradish will pitch in Boston instead of in Houston, which seems like a downgrade right now. It does give Bradish a night to celebrate his $90 million extension, however.

The 30-year-old right-hander will get the ball for the O’s in their second half opener. Injuries limited him to just four starts in the first half where he posted a 4.09 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 24/4 K/BB ratio over 22 innings of work. Trevor Rogers will follow on Saturday with Kyle Bradish getting the ball in Sunday’s series finale.

Bradish gave up two hits, walked two and struck out five. He improved to 6-9 with the win. The lone Royals run came in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Salvador Perez. Bradish kept Kansas City off the scoreboard otherwise. He has a 3.61 ERA heading into the All-Star break.

Bradish looked sharp to start this one, retiring the first eight Nationals hitters. He then walked two with two outs in the third before giving up two runs on a double. An error by Coby Mayo would bring in a third run in the inning. Bradish walked two more in the fourth, but left the runners stranded. Another walk to start the fifth would be it for Bradish, ending his day at 85 pitches, only 40 strikes. He struck out two. The inherited runner would come in to score, leaving Bradish with four runs on his ledger instead of three. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 3.77 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and a 96/47 K/BB ratio across 93 innings into a start against the Reds in Cincinnati next Sunday.

Maybe it shouldn’t be a total surprise that Bradish places on the short list of the league’s most inconsistent starters in his first full year back from Tommy John, but his strong showing at the end of the year did suggest more was in store. Still, things do seem to be getting better; he has a 2.78 ERA in his last nine starts after coming in at 5.03 in the first seven. Overall, he’s allowed one or no runs six times and four or more runs five times. He’ll take a 5-7 record and a 3.64 ERA into his next start versus the Nationals.

It’s Bradish’s seventh career 10-strikeout game, but it was his first of 2026 and he’d never topped 11 previously. He generated 18 missed swings with his velocity up a little tonight; his sinker was 0.5 mph better than his season average, but his curveball and slider were 1.5 and 1.9 mph harder than usual. Bradish had given up five runs in back-to-back starts, including one at home against the Mariners last week. The consistency obviously hasn’t been there for him this year, but there’s just no giving up on him when he’s still capable of outings like this. He’ll take on the Angels and Nationals next week.

Bradish racked up five strikeouts on the evening while issuing three free passes. He served up a solo homer to Cole Young to start the game, then kept the Mariners at bay until the fourth inning where they erupted for four additional runs — including homers from Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone. Bradish got eight whiffs on 85 pitches in the ballgame, registering a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll carry a 3-7 record, 4.30 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP into a rematch against the Mariners in Seattle on Wednesday.

Bradish had pitched well in five straight starts, including a win over the Blue Jays last Sunday, so one dud doesn’t seem like much of a setback. Besides, he actually allowed just four hard-hit balls today. The three-run homer he allowed to Ernie Clement was one but only barely; it left the bat at 95.3 mph and would have been a homer in 14 of 30 ballparks. Bradish will pitch at home against the Mariners next week.
