Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Ryne Nelson (elbow) will begin a throwing progression next week.

Nelson has been shut down since hitting the injured list with a right elbow strain back on June 19. The 28-year-old will be racing the clock to make it back this season since he’ll need a couple weeks to build up his arm strength before he’s cleared for a rehab assignment. However, it’s theoretically possible he’ll make it back before the end of the year.

James Schiano assesses the ripple effects of Kyle Stowers' trip to the injured list, including how it impacts the Marlins' infield and fantasy rosters alike.

Tigers recalled OF Trei Cruz from Triple-A Toledo.

Cruz had five hitless plate appearances for the Tigers in mid-June and will try to do better than that this time around as a replacement for James Outman.

Tigers placed CF James Outman (concussion) on the 7-day injured list.

Often players take longer than seven days on the concussion injured list, so don’t expect an instant return for Outman. Outman had just six plate appearances in his last 12 appearances as he’d mostly been used as a defensive sub. He’s hit .172/.235/.318 this season.

Kazuma Okamoto is starting at third base and hitting fifth in Thursday’s game against the Red Sox.

He’s been bothered by a knee contusion of late, missing games on Monday and Tuesday and DHing on Wednesday. It’s good news that he’s back at third base. He’ll take on Red Sox LHP Peyton Tolle today.

Adley Rutschman is not in Boston’s starting lineup against the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Rutschman is 1-for-6 with three walks in his first two games with the Red Sox. Connor Wong will take over at catcher in a day-game-after-a-night-game scenario.

Taylor Ward (quad tightness) is not in Seattle’s starting lineup against the Yankees on Thursday.

He’s reportedly available to play off the bench, but he won’t start against LHP Max Fried. With Cal Raleigh taking over at DH, Jhonny Pereda will get the start in Ward’s absence.

Cole Young (illness) is not in Seattle’s starting lineup against the Yankees on Thursday.

No surprise after he left last night’s game with the illness. Leo Rivas will draw the start and play shortstop.

Agustín Ramírez is batting fifth in Miami’s starting lineup against the Pirates on Thursday.

It’s his third start in four games, and the second behind the plate. It stands to reason that he could benefit majorly from Kyle Stowers’ hamstring injury. Ramírez is by no means a must-roster at this point, but he’s a streamable catcher who looks to be coming into more playing time down the stretch. Perhaps he can rebound from a rocky start to the season.

Munetaka Murakami is not in Chicago’s starting lineup against the Reds on Thursday.

It appears to be just a routine rest day for Murakami after a night game. Since coming off the injured list in mid-July, Murakami has hit .225/.347/.480 with six homers and 13 RBI in 27 games.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Teoscar Hernández “hasn’t been to his standard, our standard,” versus right-handed pitchers.

Hernández has been pinch-hit for multiple times in the past two games and The Athletic’s Katie Woo believes he may sit against right-handed starters for Tommy Edman.
Hernández has hit .209/.258/.357 since returning from the injured list in late June.

The Athletic’s Katie Woo reports Tyler Glasnow (back) could return near the end of the month.

Glasnow will have a rehab start on Friday and another after that, likely on next Wednesday, before being a candidate to come off the injured list. That would put him on track to start in the big leagues during the last week of August against the Braves or Tigers. Justin Wrobleski and Eric Lauer are candidates to move to the bullpen when Glasnow returns.
