Nick Loftin went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Kansas City’s loss to Detroit on Friday.

Loftin has essentially become a full-time player for the Royals due to injuries, starting 14 of 18 Royals July games to date. He’s hitting .286/.344/.393 in July and .247/.330/.394 on the season with four homers and one stolen base. Obviously, no fantasy upside here with those numbers, but Loftin is at least playing decently enough to not be a major problem for the Royals.

Garcia, out since June 23 with a hand injury, went 4-for-10 with a double and three walks in three games for Double-A Northwest Arkansas from Thursday through Saturday. His return will likely push Nick Loftin back into a utility role and result in Josh Rojas losing his spot.

Nick Loftin went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a HBP and a stolen base versus the Dodgers on Monday.

Loftin was on base all three times up against Tarik Skubal. He’s hitting a solid .249/.336/.400, giving him the third highest OPS among the 12 players with 100 plate appearances for the Royals this season.

Nick Loftin is absent from the Royals’ starting lineup for Thursday’s divisional showdown against the Twins.

It looks to be nothing more than a routine day off for the versatile 27-year-old. Josh Rojas will man the hot corner in his absence and will bat eighth against Twins’ right-hander Bailey Ober.

Nick Loftin homered and doubled twice as the Royals bested the Mets 16-12 on Tuesday.

As goes Loftin, so go the Royals. This makes seven times this season that the Royals have scored 10 runs with him in the starting lineup, and he’s 17-for-33 with three homers and 14 RBI in those games. He’s hit .177 with one homer and 15 RBI in his remaining 49 appearances.

Nick Loftin finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a walk versus the Phillies on Monday.

Loftin had been 1-for-27 since going 4-for-6 with a homer the last time the Royals scored 10 runs on June 23. Six times this year, he’s started a game in which the Royals have gone on to score in double figures. He’s 14-for-27 with two homers and 12 RBI in those games, and he’s hitting .177 in 130 at-bats the rest of the time.

Nick Loftin left Saturday’s game in the ninth inning after being hit by a thrown ball.

Loftin was playing third when Daniel Lynch IV fielded a bunt and went to try to cut down the lead runner by firing a bullet right at Loftin from about 20 feet away. The throw handcuffed Loftin and missed his glove entirely, instead hitting him in the worst possible area. He couldn’t continue but was able to walk gingerly off the field after a few minutes. Kameron Misner replaced him in the game.

He has now missed three straight games since being diagnosed with left hand soreness. Nick Loftin again mans the hot corner against Cardinals RHP Michael McGreevy.

Nick Loftin went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI on Thursday evening as the Royals crushed the Cardinals 14-6.

Loftin doubled in the third inning and was left stranded there. He then smacked a two-run double in the fourth that extended the Royals’ lead to 11-3. He’s seeing increased action at third base while Maikel Garcia is shelved. For the season, he’s hitting .245/.348/.400 with one homer and 20 RBI across 133 plate appearances.

As of now, the Royals are taking things day-to-day with Garcia, who was pulled from Tuesday’s game due to left hand soreness. There’s a chance that he winds up spending time on the injured list for this though. Nick Loftin will once again start in his place at the hot corner and will bat seventh for the Royals against Cardinals’ left-hander Matthew Liberatore.

Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Phillies are signing Nestor Cortes (arm) to a one-year deal.

Cortes will get an MLB deal, which makes sense considering the deal will be prorated and there’s not much season left. The southpaw has not pitched since 2025 after undergoing surgery in the middle of October that year. While he has a starting background, there isn’t much time for to build into that role. A muti-inning option out of the bullpen for the remainder of 2026.

Mets interim manager Andy Green told reporters that Jorge Polanco is likely to undergo surgery on his ankle.

Polanco was placed on the injured list before Wednesday’s game against the Padres with ankle bursitis. The 33-year-old has had a disastrous first season with the Mets that has seen him deal with injuries and ineffectiveness when available. If he does undergo the operation, it will all but assuredly mean he’s played his last game in 2026. That may be true, either way.
