Casey Mize allowed one run over six innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Royals.

Mize’s fastball velocity was down slightly at the outset of this one, but began trending in the right direction by the third inning as he began hitting the mid-90’s with increased frequency. No matter how you slice the data, Mize clearly didn’t have his best stuff as he continues to battle a lingering groin issue, but he still managed to grind out six frames and put Detroit in position to win. He finished with three strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly in the second inning He’ll face the Athletics in a challenging road matchup his next time out on Friday.

Mize was experiencing groin tightness in his start on Sunday, but also took a comebacker off his wrist. The throwing session on Monday was to ensure that both injuries didn’t impact his throwing. According to reports, Mize felt fine and plans to continue with his normal pre-start routine before starting on Saturday against the Royals.

Casey Mize was dealing with groin tightness when he exited Sunday’s game after taking a comebacker off his wrist and is set to undergo tests.

The wrist was also a factor in his departure, but it’s already doing better. The Tigers are more concerned about the leg issue. Mize has already twice served IL stints due to groin problems this season. If he’s forced there again, Keider Montero could reenter the rotation.

Mize took a 108.8 mph ground ball from Jo Adell and was unable to continue. The Tigers will assuredly have the right-hander undergo testing to determine the severity of the injury, and there should be an update either during the game or shortly after.

Casey Mize allowed four runs (three earned) in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Phillies on Saturday.

Mize gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five. He fell to 4-6 with the loss. The unearned run against Mize came in the third inning when Derek Hill reached on a throwing error and scored after two stolen bases and a sacrifice fly. The other three runs came in the fourth inning on a J.T. Realmuto two-run double and an RBI single by Hill. Mize’s ERA is up to 2.79 heading into the All-Star break.

Casey Mize allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings while being credited with a win over the Rangers on Sunday.

Mize continues to pitch well, although his ERA did increase ever-so-slightly from 2.63 to 2.64 with this effort. He didn’t have the same swing-and-miss he did against the Yankees on Monday, but he limited the hard contact while allowing just five hits, striking out four and getting into the seventh inning. The former first-overall pick has looked the part thus far, and he’ll have a chance to keep it going against the Phillies on Saturday.

Osuna had started every game this week in left field, so he’ll get a breather for Sunday’s tilt against the Tigers. Josh Smith will start in his place and will bat seventh for the Rangers against right-hander Casey Mize.

Casey Mize tossed seven scoreless innings and got the win in the Tigers’ victory over the Yankees on Monday.

Mize allowed one hit, walked none and struck out 10. He improved to 3-5 with the win. Last week, Mize took the loss against the Yankees at home when he allowed a go-ahead home run to Jazz Chisholm in the sixth inning. On Monday, he was almost untouchable. A harmless Spencer Jones double was the only baserunner against Mize in seven innings of dominant work. He has a 2.63 ERA and 3.53 xFIP, both of which represent career-bests. Mize is lined up to face the Rangers on the road this weekend.

Jazz Chisholm hit a two-run home run before Jose Caballero singled and scored on an Austin Wells double after Mize was removed from the game. He has a 2.95 ERA and a 3.75 xFIP in 11 starts. Mize is lined up to face the Astros this weekend.

Casey Mize fell to 2-4 on Wednesday in Houston, allowing three earned run on six hits over 4 2/3 innings pitched.

Mize struck out three and walked one, raising his ERA to 2.58. The former first overall pick was making his first start back from a minor groin issue, throwing 86 pitches. He has leaned more heavily into his fastball/splitter/slider mix so far in 2026, and it’s leading to the best results of his career. Consider Mize a strong fantasy option next time out despite a tough matchup against the Yankees, which at least comes in his spacious home park.

Mize had been slated to be activated from the injured list and return on Sunday, but the Tigers will instead stay on schedule with Troy Melton and Framber Valdez for the first two games against the Astros in Houston, with Mize working the finale on Wednesday.

While all of the trade buzz with San Diego will understandably swirl around electric closer Mason Miller, it’s King that might be the strongest bet to be dealt before next week’s trade deadline. Feinsand notes that King could be an expiring contract that the Padres might offload since he has a $28 million player option for 2027 and a $30 million player option for the following season. The revelation comes as a bit of a surprise as the Angels appear to be more willing to move on from someone like Neto, who was viewed as one of their more long-term building blocks. There are plenty of teams that could use a shortstop, which is probably why Los Angeles interim general manager John Mozeliak is going to entertain overtures. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, but the Angels could be headed for more of a full-scale teardown than many anticipated.

However, Susac, as a Rule 5 pick, is locked into a spot the rest of the way.
