Lars Nootbaar is back in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the division-rival Cubs.

Nootbaar is back in left field and hitting eighth after coming off the bench during Sunday’s series finale against the Reds. He made an early exit from Saturday’s contest due to dehydration after feeling lightheaded. The 28-year-old outfielder has hit .241 (32-for-133) with three homers, 15 RBI and one steal in 41 games since making his season debut back on June 5.

Trysta Krick and Vaughn Dalzell break down the AL pennant odds and explain why the Yankees remain favorites despite pressure from the Rays and Red Sox.

Orioles designated RHP Albert Suárez for assignment.

This happened on May 2, and the Orioles wound up keeping Suárez and selecting his contract on May 19. It happened again on May 24, and he elected free agency, then re-signed with the Orioles a day later. What we’re saying is: Suárez can be DFAed, but he will eternally live on this roster anyway.

Rays POBO Erik Neander said RHP Manuel Rodríguez (elbow) will be activated off the injured list over the weekend.

Rodríguez has been on rehab assignment after undergoing Tommy John surgery last August. This is a pretty quick return from surgery, but the Rays are apparently excited about his progress despite a 10.50 ERA for Triple-A Durham on rehab.

Marlins optioned INF Graham Pauley to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Pauley has hit .194/.228/.306 in 115 plate appearances for the Marlins this year. The 25-year-old was only on the roster for 10 days this time and doesn’t appear to be a major part of their end-of-season plans.

Marlins purchased the contract of C Logan Driscoll from Triple-A Jacksonville.

With Graham Pauley optioned out, the Marlins will go with the rare four-catcher alignment (Joe Mack, Agustín Ramírez, Brian Navarreto, and Driscoll) in the short term.
Ramírez is likely done seeing time at the position, while the 31-year-old Navarreto might not be long for the roster. Driscoll, 28, hit .250/.343/.368 at Triple-A Durham this year and doesn’t figure to be a fantasy contributor.

Athletics transferred 1B Nick Kurtz from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

This frees up a 40-man roster spot for Michael Stefanic. Kurtz remains done for the season.

Athletics recalled RHP Kade Morris from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Morris will be back in a low-leverage, non-fantasy relevant role for the Athletics. He has a 11.70 ERA in three appearances (one start) for West Sacramento this year.

Athletics optioned RHP Taylor Rashi to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Rashi threw two innings in Thursday’s game and allowed three hits and one earned run while throwing 43 pitches. He’s simply being exchanged for a fresh arm.

Athletics placed INF Jacob Wilson (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list.

This was reported to be happening yesterday and we now have official confirmation. Wilson is unlikely to play again this year and can be dropped in any re-draft formats where you were holding out hope for the Sacramento home park to help him out. Based on reporting he seems likely to undergo some sort of shoulder surgery in the near future.

Athletics selected the contract of INF Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Las Vegas.

No stranger to the “replace Jacob Wilson” rodeo this year, Stefanic hit .400 in five plate appearances in an earlier appearance with the A’s when Wilson hit the injured list. The 30-year-old has hit .296/.405/.414 for Triple-A Las Vegas with six homers and nine stolen bases in 453 plate appearances.

Alec Burleson is not in St. Louis’ starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Phillies.

It appears to just be a routine day off against tough left-hander Jesús Luzardo. Burleson is hitting .288/.355/.489 in 128 games this year with 21 homers and 93 RBI; he’s been a major reason the Cardinals have overachieved preseason expectations.
