Report: Diamondbacks acquiring Lars Nootbaar

Webb will still get two starts this week, but now the first will be against the Pirates, rather than the Braves. That’s probably a good thing, though it hurts a bit that he’ll be matched up against Paul Skenes. Landen Roupp and Blade Tidwell will follow Webb in the series versus the Pirates.

Scherzer allowed one hit and one walk in the 97-pitch masterpiece. The 42-year-old has had an up-and-down season between injuries and ineffectiveness. He’s given up seven or more earned runs in three of his 13 starts, and his ERA sits at 6.16 following Sunday’s gem. The 10 strikeouts were a season high, as he hadn’t recorded more than five in any other outing. He also surpassed Gaylord Perry to take sole possession of ninth on the all-time strikeout leaderboard. Up next is a road start against the Royals.

Gilbert struck out four in the defeat. The 29-year-old now has a 3.42 ERA on the season, right behind last year’s mark of 3.44 and in line with his career 3.54 entering Sunday. His strikeout rate has regressed to career norms following last season’s spike over 32%, but he still has one of the lowest WHIPs among qualified starters. We’ve yet to see a Cy Young ceiling, but he remains a dependable fantasy option. He’ll be a free agent after the 2027 season. Up next is a home start against the Athletics.

Kirk’s homer was a two-run shot off Logan Gilbert in the bottom of the first, handing Toronto a lead they would never surrender. He’s been one of the Blue Jays’ most valuable offensive players despite all the time he’s missed, ranking first on the team in strikeout rate, batting average, and on-base percentage. He’ll head into 2027 drafts as a strong batting-average option at a position where that’s a rare skill.

Okamoto connected for a solo shot in the sixth that put Toronto up 4-0. It was his 28th homer of the year, double the next-highest total on the Blue Jays, George Springer’s 14. It’s also quadruple Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s total. Okamoto also leads the team in runs, RBI, and slugging percentage in his first MLB season.

Bateman stuffed the stat sheet while continuing to serve as Toronto’s primary leadoff hitter. He has now batted first in all but two games since August 14, one of which came while he was injured. The outfielder leads the Jays in wRC+, though he has just 88 plate appearances on the year. A .433 BABIP has certainly aided his hot start. He’s also yet to homer in the big leagues and has never had more than three in a professional season.

The Pirates are listing TBA for Thursday versus the Giants, but they could again use the Lake Bachar/Carmen Mlodzinski combo on four days’ rest that day. After missing last year following elbow surgery, Jones, who allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings Friday against the Cardinals, figures to continue to be used carefully down the stretch.

Go had been designated for assignment on Friday as the Twins cleared a spot for Walker Jenkins on their 40-man roster. He’ll remain as extra bullpen depth for the Twins at Triple-A St. Paul.

The 27-year-old infielder was designated for assignment on Thursday and passed through waivers unclaimed. Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento, Kennedy will try his luck on the open market.

Wilkinson was with the Giants on Saturday as the 27th man for their doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, but now he’ll join the active roster with Sam Hentges (forearm) heading to the injured list. It remains to be seen if he’ll remain in the club’s rotation or if he’ll work as a long man out of the bullpen.
