Bassitt (back) strikes out three in Triple-A

Bassitt spent most of this game in the proverbial rocking chair. The Mets finally pushed a runner into scoring position by the fourth inning and they only got there due to a balk from Bassitt. That set up the only run he’d allowed and afterwards, he retired seven batters in a row before being pulled as the Mets threatened in the seventh. Reliever Anthony Nunez would neutralize said threat and preserve an excellent final line for Bassitt. Reaching back for a little extra, Bassitt’s velocity was up by more than a tick across the board and his 14 swings-and-misses tied his season-high. Overall, it was a great series for Orioles players who were former Mets to get some revenge. Bassitt is scheduled to face the Blue Jays at home next week in what figures to be his final start of the season.

The definition of “scattering” his hits, Bassitt allowed exactly one knock in four of the first five innings he pitched. Still in a groove and only at 89 pitches, the Orioles tried to push him through the sixth, but he allowed two hits to start that frame before being pulled. One of those inherited runners came around to score which sullied his line a tad despite this being a solid start. In classic Bassitt fashion, he gave the Blue Jays’ hitters a different look every time around the order. First, being very sinker heavy, then turning to his curveball the second time through, and then closing his outing with a heavy dose of cutters. He’s scheduled to face the Mets on the road next time out.

Bassitt stranded the bases loaded in the first inning. He then settled in for four more scoreless innings, limiting Boston to two more baserunners before he ran into trouble in the sixth. Bassitt loaded the bases and gave up a two-run single with two outs. That would end his day at 91 pitches. One inherited runner would come in to score. The 37-year-old right-hander will take a 4.96 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and a 61/33 K/BB ratio across 85 1/3 innings into a start against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Friday.

Bassitt didn’t pitch well, but didn’t have to with the Orioles giving him eight runs of offensive support. The right-hander allowed eight hits, walked three and struck out four while throwing 65-of-99 pitches for strikes. He’ll try and bounce back Friday against the Red Sox and take an ugly 4.97 ERA into that outing.

Bassitt struck out five and walked none. He averaged a season-high 93.4 mph with his sinker tonight, and his velocity has been above his season average in all three starts since he returned form the IL at the beginning of the month. As long as he keeps throwing like this, he might be of use in mixed leagues the rest of the way.

Bassitt struck out six and walked one in the outing, which included a homer off the bat of Ben Rice. The right-hander was making just his second start since returning from midseason back surgery. Consider him an innings-eater for Baltimore down the stretch as he carries a 5.08 ERA into his next start versus the Cardinals.

Making his first start since June 3rd, Bassitt had a solid return against the division rival Rays. The righty showed good command of the strike zone and did a nice job of neutralizing a potent Rays lineup. He surrendered an RBI double to Richie Palacios in the second inning to give the Rays their first run of the night and later gave up an RBI single to Victor Mesa Jr. in the third inning to give the Rays their second run. After those two innings, Bassitt settled in to pitch 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just one baserunner over that span. He’ll draw a tougher start in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Yankees.

He’ll start tonight’s game against the Rays. No need to stream him here, but it’s good to see Bassitt back after he missed two months with a back injury.

Bassitt struck out four batters on the afternoon while issuing one free pass. He threw 67 pitches in the contest, 47 of those for strikes. It’s possible that he’ll require one additional tune-up in the minors before he’s cleared to return to the Orioles’ rotation. It’s also possible that teams could be calling on Bassitt prior to Monday’s trade deadline.

Bassitt threw 46 pitches over 3 1/3 innings his last time out, so you’d expect him to get somewhere in the range of 75 pitches on Sunday. If all goes well, that could be all he needs before returning from the injured list. It’s also possible that if he shows enough in that outing it could entice interested teams to pick him up from the O’s prior to Monday’s trade deadline.
