Iván Herrera went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in an exhilarating 3-2 win in 10 innings over the Cubs on Wednesday.

This was an unbelievable baseball game. Tied 0-0 after nine, Pete Crow-Armstrong swatted a two-run home run in the top of the 10th to give the Cubs a commanding lead. Facing a sweep and swirling rumors about teammates being traded, the Cardinals rallied for three in the bottom of the inning with Herrera’s walk-off double landing the final blow. It was his second of two doubles – with the first being hit 111 mph – and saved the day. Herrera himself has been at the center of some recent rumors and hopes to get off the schneid after putting up a .545 OPS over his last 30 games.

The Cardinals could be open to moving either Iván Herrera or Pedro Páges at the trade deadline, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

As dynasty managers are aware, St. Louis has one of the most exciting offensive catching prospects in the game looming in the upper minors with Rainiel Rodriguez. That could make either Herrera or Páges viable trade options ahead of next week’s deadline. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, but there’s an opportunity for the Cardinals to move one of their veteran backstops with so many contending clubs searching for catching help.

The slumping Iván Herrera went 2-for-4 with a two-run double versus the Reds on Saturday.

It could have been an even better game, but his 106-mph liner in the fourth was hit right at TJ Friedl in center for an out. Herrera entered the night 7-for-51 with no extra-base hits and one RBI in his previous 13 games.

Herrera gets his first day off all season. Herrera is hitting .241/.366/.373 after a .200/.247/.253 cold streak through his first 19 games of July. He also has the lead league in double plays grounded into at 14.

Iván Herrera struck out all four times up against the Angels in Monday’s loss.

Herrera has been struggling the last couple of weeks, but a four-strikeout game from a guy with a 16 percent K rate is pretty unexpected. He’d never had one previously in 301 games as a major leaguer. Herrera is 6-for-40 with no extra-base hits in his last 10 games.

Ivan Herrera was added to the National League All-Star team as an injury replacement for Dodgers’ superstar Shohei Ohtani.

It’s the first trip to the Mid-Summer Classic for the 26-year-old backstop. Herrera has had a solid first half at the plate, slashing .249/.384/.395 with 11 long balls, 40 RBI and a 68/51 K/BB ratio over 411 plate appearances.

Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast. The Cardinals scored multiple runs in every inning from the second to the sixth and Herrera was in the middle of most of those rallies. This was the second time this season he’s reached base four times in a single game and fourth time he’s scored three runs. It’s been a bit of a cold month power-wise for him with just three homers and a .349 slugging percentage over his past 30 days, but he remains one of the most productive catchers in the league.

Ivan Herrera stuffed the stat sheet on Father’s Day, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Herrera’s three-run shot was one of four the Cardinals hit on the afternoon, a fifth-inning blast that gave them a 12-7 lead at the time. He has made 28 starts behind the plate this season but has been in the lineup and hit second in every game the team has played. He’s a high-end fantasy catcher from here on out.

Iván Herrera delivered a pair of homers to knock in three runs and walked Saturday in the Cardinals’ 9-6 takedown of the Twins.

He had a two-run homer off Connor Prielipp as the second batter of the game, and he broke a 4-4 tie with the first of back-to-back homers with Jordan Walker in the seventh. It’s Herrera’s second career multihomer game, though he hit three the other time on Apr. 2, 2025. He has nine homers on the year, and he’s currently seventh in the majors with a .400 OBP.

Herrera had gone just 4-for-25 in the month of June prior to this game, so perhaps this is the game that gets the 26-year-old going again. He singled twice and doubled; the latter being the 13th of the season. Herrera has put together a competent season despite the early struggles to begin the month with a .264 average and .803 OPS.

Iván Herrera went 2-for-4 and homered Thursday against the Pirates.

Herrera lost a seven-game hitting streak last night, but he made up for it today with one of his better games from the DH spot this year. He’s hitting .227 with 29 strikeouts in 144 plate appearances as a DH, compared to .328 with nine strikeouts in 79 plate appearances as a catcher. It’s probably something of a fluke, but it’s quite possible catching helps him stay in the flow of the game better. Still, even if that’s the case, Pedro Pages’ superiority on defense possibly outweighs the potential offensive gains.

Osleivis Basabe left Sunday’s game against the Padres after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning in his left forearm.

It was a 100 mph offering from Adrian Morejon, and Grant McCray took over as the pinch runner. Basabe told reporters that he’s feeling better, but the 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day.

Rangers SS prospect Sebastian Walcott was placed on the minor league injured list with a head injury.

Walcott was hit in the head by an errant pickoff throw during Saturday’s game. This sounds precautionary, but it’ll likely keep Walcott out for at least a week. The 20-year-old has been sensational since returning from his internal brace surgery, and has a chance to be an impact player for Texas in 2027, with an outside chance of reaching the bigs before the end of this season.

Both runs came in the fifth, which started with a walk and three singles. Fortunately for Lambert, Evan Carter was thrown out trying to take second after a throw to the plate on the second single. Elias Díaz then grounded into a double play after the third hit, preventing what could have been a big inning. Lambert has allowed two runs or fewer in six straight starts and 11 of his last 12, but he’s remained stuck on eight wins since July 11, having received no-decisions in four straight starts. He’ll take a 3.06 ERA into his next start versus the Padres.

Rocker had pretty awful luck today, and he did well to limit the damage to three runs. He actually allowed just four hard-hit balls, and the big blow, Jeremy Peña’s two-run homer to left in the fourth, would have been a double or maybe even a single in the majority of ballparks. Rocker struck out five and walked two. He’ll face the Orioles next weekend. He remains a mediocre option in mixed leagues.

Keider Montero gave up just two hits over six scoreless frames in an 11-0 walloping of the A’s on Sunday.

This was nice to see after Montero had arguably his worst start of the season last time out against the Orioles. That’s especially the case considering he was pitching in Sacramento. Montero was far from dominant — he had just two strikeouts and didn’t register his first one until the sixth inning — but he threw strikes and did a good job getting ahead in the count. The 26-year-old has been a surprising success story this season with a 3.17 ERA through 18 starts and six relief appearances. He’s a recommended play in his next start against the Giants in San Francisco.

Jump walked a career-high six batters, but it didn’t hurt him severely until the fourth inning. After issuing a pair of one-out walks, he gave up a two-run single to Gleyber Torres. He walked another batter before being pulled for Elvis Alvarado, who served up a two-run double to close the book on Jump’s afternoon. The rookie southpaw has walked 14 batters in 14 1/3 innings over his last three starts, so he’s much too erratic to trust in mixed fantasy leagues. He’ll get the Red Sox on the road next time out.
