Martín Pérez strikes out six in win Saturday

Pérez scattered four hits, and he walked three with two strikeouts. Far from dominant, but still effective. Again. The 35-year-old hasn’t allowed a run in his last three outings, and his ERA is now an outstanding 2.96 on the season. He’ll have a chance to keep this good run going against the Twins next week.

The 35-year-old southpaw struck out three batters in the contest. He had thrown just 35 pitches through his three innings but had to get bumped from the game after an extensive rain delay. Pérez got five whiffs in the contest, posting a CSW of 29 percent. He now boasts a 3.14 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 78/40 K/BB ratio over 100 1/3 innings through his first 22 appearances (18 starts) on the season. He’ll square off against the Mets his next time out at home on Tuesday.

Sale won’t start at all against Miami, and instead is being pushed back to the weekend series against the Yankees. Atlanta will instead push up the other arms in the rotation, so Grant Holmes, Bryce Elder and Martin Perez will be the arms who go instead. It’s disappointing Sale won’t get a two-start week this late in the fantasy season, but understandable.

Martín Pérez, Sunday’s scheduled starter, will face the Nationals in his place. As a result, the Nats have altered their lineup to sit Daylen Lile and Jorbit Vivas in favor of Andres Chapparo and Brady House.

Pérez gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out four. The Mets ended up winning 14-3, but the fireworks didn’t start until after Perez was already out of the game. Pérez won four starts in a row from late May to early June, but has a 5.70 ERA and is 0-3 in five starts since then. He has a 3.49 ERA on the season. Pérez is lined up to face the Nationals at home on Saturday, though it’s possible Atlanta will acquire a starting pitcher before the trade deadline to bump him from the rotation.

The Braves were certainly motivated to not expose Pérez in this one. He only faced 16 total batters and thus, didn’t complete two full revolutions around the Padres’ lineup. Also, oddly, he threw a first-pitch strike to 12 of those 16 and still managed to walk four batters. This was his first start back off the injured list for a forearm contusion though. Despite a low 3.38 ERA, Pérez’s rotation spot is in jeopardy ahead of the trade deadline. If nothing changes over the next few days, Pérez is scheduled for a two-start week against the Mets and Nationals coming up.

This was reported last night and is now official. Pérez will start on Wednesday against the Padres, a team that has struggled against lefties so far this season. Still, we would avoid using Pérez in his first start off the IL unless you’re in a deep format.

Pérez will come off the injured list after missing just over two weeks with a forearm contusion. The well-traveled 35-year-old has compiled a respectable 3.54 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 62/32 K/BB ratio across 81 1/3 innings this season.

Since the X-rays came back negative for Pérez, this feels like the Braves simply using the All-Star break to get their veteran some extra time to heal. We expect him to be back in the rotation after the break.

The 92-mph liner hit Pérez in the forearm. X-rays were negative, but manager Walt Weiss said after the game that he’d likely go on the injured list anyway, allowing the Braves to add an extra pitcher with no days off this week. Pérez took the loss, leaving him 6-6 with a 3.54 ERA.
