Andrés Muñoz gets the win after blowing save Sunday

The plan is for Nasim Nunez to take over as the team’s primary shortstop. Butera noted that he already talked to Abrams about it last week and that the All-Star infielder was completely on board with the change. He’s still in there at shorstop on Friday night, so expect it to be a gradual transition. The move will add to Abrams’ already sky-high fantasy value as he’ll add second base eligibility to his repertoire at some point during this season and for the 2027 campaign as well.

Suzuki got a hold of a George Soriano changeup and launched it just beyond the left-center field basket in Wrigley, 390 feet away, for the only runs the Cubs would need on the day. Suzuki is hitting .310/.412/.552 over his last 15 games with three homers and one stolen base, along with 15 RBI. Hitting in a good lineup has been great for Suzuki’s counting stats this year.

Herrera is showing a little extra heat over the past 15 games, hitting .286/.318/.460 with a homer and a stolen base after a long dry spell in July. He’s still a reliable starting catcher in 12-team leagues, but it’s been a bumpy ride of late. Maybe this will get him going.

Webb allowed a leadoff hit to Iván Herrera but settled in to make quick work of the rest of the middle of the order, including a strikeout of Jordan Walker. Webb hasn’t been scored upon in his last 15 outings, where he’s saved five games with a 0.72 WHIP and 14 strikeouts. He’s becoming a bit of a stretch run find for those hungry for saves after surviving the trade deadline with the closer’s role.

The 36-year-old second baseman exited Tuesday’s game with a left foot contusion and was held out on Wednesday as a precautionary measure. He’s doing much better after a couple of days off though and is right back in there at second base and batting fifth against Mariners’ right-hander George Kirby on Friday evening in Houston.

He allowed just one hit -- a poke from Jose Fermín in the sixth -- and left after hitting 80 pitches while walking Jordan Walker. Holmes is lined up for a nice start in Seattle next week. It looks like he’ll be a useful 12-team starter down the stretch despite the low strikeout rate.

He deserved better here. Liberatore threw five one-hit innings to start the game, induced a pop up to Pete-Crow Armstrong with runners on first and third and nobody out, then watched helplessly as George Soriano allowed a three-run homer to Seiya Suzuki to cash the inherited runners. Liberatore has a 3.96 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over his last seven starts. We wouldn’t recommend streaming him in Cincinnati next week, but he could be useful in the right matchup down the stretch.

Siani opted out of his minor league deal with the Orioles earlier in the week. The 27-year-old outfielder has hit just .167/.281/.242 with one homer and 17 RBI in 219 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He’ll add outfield depth at Triple-A Toledo where the Tigers have been stretched thin recently.

Topa had signed a minor league deal with the Royals in early July but he exercised an opt-out clause earlier this week and has now latched on with the Yankees. The 35-year-old hurler holds an 8.05 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 12/11 K/BB ratio over 19 innings at the big league level this season.

As expected, the 26-year-old infielder will get his first shot at showing what he can do at the MLB level with Colt Emerson being optioned back to Triple-A Tacoma. Rodden hit .262/.342/.499 with 19 homers, 65 RBI and eight stolen bases in 410 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season.
