The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports the Padres are acquiring Casey Mize from the Tigers.
San Diego manages to fortify its starting rotation, which has been one of the worst in baseball this season, by landing Mize just ahead of the buzzer at the trade deadline. The 29-year-old has battled through lingering groin issues this season, managing to post a stellar 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 85/19 K/BB ratio across 86 2/3 innings of work. He should be ready to return from the injured list to make his Padres debut at some point later this month.
