Kyle Harrison was removed from Wednesday’s start against the Pirates with bilateral calf cramps.

It’s a massive relief that Harrison isn’t dealing with anything arm-related following a one-month absence due to a forearm issue. It appears that his early departure was for precautionary reasons after he experienced cramping in both of his calves while warming up for the sixth inning. The 24-year-old southpaw was in the middle of a dominant performance during his return from the injured list, allowing just two baserunners over five shutout innings while recording his fourth double-digit strikeout effort of the season. He struck out eight consecutive batters prior to his early exit. He’s slated to take the ball against the Padres his next time out on Tuesday.

Andy Pages (hand) has started a hitting progression.

Pages has progressed to hitting off a batting tee for the last two days. The 25-year-old fantasy standout is attempting to make it back to Los Angeles’ lineup in time for the postseason after undergoing surgery to repair a left hand fracture in late August. There’s no reason for fantasy managers to hang onto him with less than three weeks left in the season.

Jackson Chourio had a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth as the Brewers edged the Cubs 4-3 on Monday.

The Brewers were down 2-1 when Chourio delivered a groundball single against a drawn-in Cubs infield. Chourio then stole a base and scored what proved to be a very important insurance run on Christian Yelich’s single afterwards. That made it 4-2 prior to Pete Crow-Armstrong hitting a solo homer in the ninth. Chourio is batting .315 with four homers and 11 RBI in his last 12 games.

Robert Gasser yielded one run in 4 2/3 innings Monday against the Cubs.

It’s the fourth time in six starts that Gasser has been lifted before completing five innings, but he has his chances today. After keeping the Cubs scoreless for 4 2/3 innings, he gave up a homer to Pedro Ramírez to tie the game at 1-1. He then plunked Pete Crow-Armstrong and walked Seiya Suzuki before being replaced by Chad Patrick, who got Alex Bregman to pop up to end the inning. With the early exits, Gasser is just 1-1 in seven outings since the beginning of August. Barring a change, he’s in line to face the Reds on Sunday.

Trevor Megill converted his 27th save despite giving up his first homer of the year Monday against the Cubs.

Megill got some help while pitching in a two-run game. With one out, Pedro Ramírez sent a ball 383 feet to the wall in right that Luis Lara saw make a terrific leaping catch. Pete Crow-Armstrong then homered afterwards. Seiya Suzuki made a bid to keep the game going with two outs, but Jackson Chourio managed to pick the liner just before the ball hit the ground in left. PCA’s homer was the first off Megill in the regular season since Aug. 6, 2025 and produced the first earned run Megill has allowed in 16 appearances since July 22.

Matthew Boyd surrendered three runs in seven-plus innings Monday in a loss to the Brewers.

Boyd hadn’t pitched into the eighth this season, but the Cubs thought he could do it after seven innings of one-run ball today. And then he walked Garrett Mitchell and gave up a double to Joey Ortiz. Ryan Zejerjahn took over at that point and allowed both runners to score before also giving up a run of his own, putting the Cubs in a 4-2 hole. It leaves Boyd 0-3 over his last five starts, though the most recent three have been quite solid (3.44 ERA). He’ll likely face the Pirates on Sunday.

Pete Crow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with a homer and two steals versus the Brewers on Monday.

He was also hit by a pitch. The homer came in the ninth and was the first allowed by Trevor Megill in 55 innings this season. Unfortunately, it was a solo shot instead of a game-tying two-run homer because Luis Lara had just robbed Pedro Ramírez of a double. Crow-Armstrong now has 41 homers and 35 steals. He clearly wants the 40 steals and probably will be very aggressive until he gets there.

Ian Happ walked and grounded out off the bench Monday against the Brewers.

Happ played two innings in left field today after missing Sunday’s game with knee discomfort. Assuming no setbacks, he’ll probably return to the starting lineup on Tuesday against Jacob Misiorowski.

Giants recalled LHP Philip Abner from Triple-A Sacramento.

Abner gets his first chance with San Francisco leading into Monday’s series opener against the Reds. The 24-year-old lefty was claimed off waivers from the division-rival Diamondbacks last month after posting an underwhelming 6.28 ERA across 14 1/3 innings of work this season.

Reynaldo López (knee) will be activated from the injured list to start Wednesday’s game against the Rays.

It’s a favorable spot for López against a contact-oriented Tampa Bay lineup as he returns to Atlanta’s rotation for his first start since July 27. The 32-year-old has been on the shelf with knee inflammation for just over six weeks. He struck out six, while throwing 93 pitches, over five shutout innings in his final minor league rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett last Thursday. He’ll slot into the Braves’ rotation with Bryce Elder moving to the bullpen temporarily due to ongoing knee issues.
