Meyers elected free agency rather than accept the outright assignment. It became abundantly clear that his time with the organization was basically over when he was shipped to the minors following the emergence of Taylor Trammell in early July. He hit just .213 (30-for-131) with three homers in 57 games this past season.

This is all about roster flexibility. Meyers is currently on the 60-day injured list with a fractured knee that he suffered in September, but all players are set to be activated off the 60-day injured list by the end of the day, so the Astros needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. They could look to sign the 30-year-old back on a minor league deal.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
The move opens up a spot on Houston’s 40-man roster. It also rules out Meyers, who suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his knee earlier this month while playing at Triple-A Sugar Land, for the rest of the year, including the postseason.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
Going from Meyers to Jorge Barrosa seems like a downgrade for the Astros bench, but they obviously disagree. To be fair, Meyers, usually an adequate starting center fielder or a quality fourth outfielder previously, has hit just .213/.268/.326 in 153 plate appearances this season. He’s either going to be released or non-tendered this winter.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
Meyers is back with Houston in a bench role as one of their September call-ups. The 30-year-old is unlikely to play very much with Dalton Varsho, Cam Smith, Taylor Trammell and Nelson Velázquez ahead of him on the depth chart.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
He’ll take the place of Zach Dezenzo on the club’s active roster after Dezenzo was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. Meyers, 30, has hit just .206/.264/.316 with three homers, 11 RBI and one stolen base in 148 plate appearances with the Astros this season.
  • HOU Left Fielder #9
He’ll take the Metro to southwest Houston. Dezenzo received 31 plate appearances in his month of action on the roster and hit .250/.323/.250 with one stolen base. It sounds like Jake Meyers will be ready to be activated soon.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
Meyers has basically been usurped by Taylor Trammell as Houston’s primary center fielder over the last few weeks. The 30-year-old has been shipped to the minors after hitting just .206/.264/.316 with three homers and one steal across 148 plate appearances in 52 games. He’s not special enough as a defender to justify being a complete non-factor at the plate.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
Meyers has been on the bench for the last two days as Brice Matthews has started four straight games for the Astros, but Matthews will head to the bench on Wednesday. Since June 1st, Meyers is hitting .189/.250/.297 in 40 plate appearances, which has opened the door for Matthews to take more playing time. Neither one of them has been a great fantasy option, but Matthews does have more power and speed upside.
  • HOU Center Fielder #6
The 29-year-old outfielder had started each of the team’s previous five games in center field. Taylor Trammell will slide over and cover center field on Thursday evening while LaMonte Wade Jr. draws a start in left field and will bat fifth against Pirates’ right-hander Jared Jones.

Former Royals RHPs Alex Lange and Vince Velasquez, LHPs Matt Moore and Scott Alexander, and INF Abraham Toro are among 12 players who are now minor league free agents.

Players become eligible for minor league free agency after six seasons if they have not been added to a 40-man roster, so these five players, plus seven more, are no longer a part of the Royals organization. Alex Lange appeared in 59 games for the Royals in 2026, posting a 6.75 ERA, but he has a 4.45 ERA in 244 2/4 MLB innings. Alexander has a career 3.36 ERA in 349 big-league appearances over 11 seasons and Moore has a career 4.39 ERA in 483 big-league appearances. Toro hit .270/.351/.478 with 19 home runs in 123 games for Triple-A Omaha, and Velasquez has a 4.86 ERA in 193 career MLB appearances.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that David Bell has stepped down as Blue Jays assistant GM and VP of baseball operations.

Bell has served in those roles for the last two seasons, but he said he decided to step away to “reassess where I can make the greatest impact, on and off the field.”

Angels interim general manager John Mozeliak said control of the Angels is likely to pass to Stan Kroenke’s group later this month.

Mozeliak said he’s expecting Major League Baseball owners to vote on the transfer from Arte Moreno to Kroenke Sports & Entertainment sometime during the MLB owners meeting in New York the week of November 16th. KSE announced a deal to purchase the Angels in September, and there was a belief the transition would happen at the beginning of 2027. That process is being sped up, which is good for the Angels because the team has decided to hold off on hiring a general manager and a manager until ownership changes hands. This means the Angels would be able to potentially rush and hire somebody before the lockout likely begins on December 1st.

The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports that Albert Pujols is interviewing for the Astros’ managerial vacancy this week.

Pujols is currently in the fourth year of a 10-year contract he signed to be a consultant for the Angels; however, the 11-time All-Star and three-time MVP has made it clear since his retirement in 2022 that he wants to manage. Pujols managed Team Dominican Republic to a third-place finish during this year’s World Baseball Classic and also has managerial experience in Dominican winter ball. He interviewed for the San Diego Padres and Angels managerial openings last winter, and expressed an interest in this Mets job this June when Carlos Mendoza was let go. Pujols will be interviewed in Houston by a former Cardinals teammate after Randy Flores was hired as the team’s general manager this week. Texas Rangers bench coach Luis Urueta will also interview for the job this weekend.

Guardians INF prospect Welbyn Francisca was named to the AFL All-Star Game

Francisca leads all AFL hitters in batting average, RBI, and hits while also ranking second in OPS. He’s slashing .409/.467/.667 in 14 games with three home runs, 24 RBI, five steals, and a 14/8 K/BB ratio. He’ll likely open 2027 at Double-A and is emerging as a really interesting prospect.

Rangers SS prospect Sebastian Walcott was named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game.

Walcott is hitting .316/.369/.474 in 13 games with 20 RBI, nine steals, and a 14/6 K/BB ratio. The 20-year-old missed the majority of the minor league season after shoulder surgery but has looked good this fall. He should begin the 2027 season at Triple-A with a real chance to debut for the Rangers by mid-season.

Nationals RHP prospect Jarlin Susana was named to the AFL All-Star Game.

The 6'6" right-hander has allowed 11 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits in 18 2/3 innings across six starts. He also leads all AFL pitchers with 26 strikeouts and is tied for fourth with 13 walks. Susana is coming off lat surgery and only pitched for one month in the minors this season, so it’s good to see him producing in the AFL. He has a chance to break into the Nationals’ rotaiton in the middle of the 2027 season.

Phillies INF prospect Aidan was named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game.

The Miller’s second-ranked prospect played just four games in the 2026 season due to back issues. He’s been producing in 14 AFL games, hitting .333/.562/.500 with six steals and an impressive 24/16 K/BB ratio. Miller’s future position remains in question, but he should start the 2027 season at Triple-A with a chance to be promoted if he gets off to a good start.
