Brice Turang could miss time with thumb sprain

Brice Turang has a sprained thumb that could cause him to miss some time, manager Pat Murphy revealed.

Turang was able to finish the game against the Padres, but it looks like this could be an issue going forward. If so, the Brewers will need to place either he or Joey Ortiz, who is out with a neck issue, on the IL before Wednesday’s game. The Brewers don’t have any additional middle infielders on the 40-man, but they could call on someone like Freddy Zamora as a stopgap. Of course, top prospect Jesús Made is also an option. Signing Jorge Mateo wouldn’t be exciting, but can’t be ruled out.

Brice Turang is not dealing with thumb soreness as previously reported.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy misspoke after Tuesday’s game and said that Turang was dealing with the ailment, but he misspoke, as Jackson Chourio is the player currently battling the thumb issue. While it’d be preferable if neither had an issue, it’s good news for Turang, who has been one of the best second baseman in baseball this year.

Murphy misspoke Tuesday when he told reporters that it was Brice Turang that was dealing with thumb soreness. The 22-year-old outfielder is in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Padres, but fantasy managers should pay close attention to the situation.

It’s a little surprising to see Turang back in the lineup after Brewers manager Pat Murphy suggested the infielder could miss some time. Milwaukee may need to manage the injury over the coming days, but obviously this is a wonderful sign for fantasy managers return to action this soon.

Ortiz remains out for the third consecutive game due to a lingering neck issue. All indications are that he’s making progress and figures to be available off the bench in this one, if needed. It’ll be Brice Turang handling shortstop with Jihwan Bae getting a look at the keystone. It’s Turang’s first appearance at shortstop since the 2023 campaign.

Jett Williams is set to visit a specialist in Arizona after aggravating an existing wrist injury during Saturday’s contest at Triple-A Nashville.

It sounds like the 22-year-old infielder could be shelved for a while with this one, though no clear determination will be made until he undergoes that exam early in the week. Expect the Brewers to provide an update once more information becomes available.

Brice Turang went 3-for-4 with a run, a double, a stolen base and two RBI against the Twins on Saturday.

Turang did a little bit of everything against the Twins on Saturday. He had three hits, a run scored, a double, a stolen base and two RBI. Turang’s stolen base was just his 16th of the season. After stealing 50 bases two years ago, all Turang has done since is show he’s a legitimate, well-rounded player. He’s hitting .273 with an .825 OPS and 74 RBI this year.

Brice Turang went 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Brewers to an 8-2 win over the Giants on Tuesday.

Turang led off the game with a base hit, then drove in two runs on a single in the fourth. He’d collect a third hit with another single in the eighth. The 26-year-old second baseman is hitting .269/.363/.462 with 15 homers, 70 runs scored, 64 RBI, and 15 steals across 458 plate appearances.

Brice Turang went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Milwaukee’s loss to the Rockies on Friday.

Turang golfed a 434-foot moonshot off Tomoyuki Sugano in the sixth inning, and the Rockies were lucky his first-inning single had no launch because it was 109 mph off the bat. Turang has been incredible through his first 97 games of the season, hitting .265/.361/.463 with 15 homers and 15 stolen bases. Fantasy managers would probably love it if he ran as much as he did in 2024 and 2025, but the extra power — he’s three away from last year’s career high 18 bombs — certainly helps.

Brice Turang (foot) returned to the Brewers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s contest against the Marlins.

Turang sat out on Saturday due to soreness in his right foot after fouling a ball off of it during Friday’s game. The 26-year-old second baseman will bat third against Marlins’ right-hander Eury Perez on Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Brice Turang was scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Marlins with right foot soreness.

Braden Shewmake takes over at the keystone with Turang taking a seat after fouling a ball off his right foot during Friday’s second-half opener. He’s delivered top-three fantasy value at second base this season, hitting .263/.359/.460 with 66 runs scored, 14 homers, 60 RBI and 15 steals in 421 plate appearances through 92 games. It’s unclear whether there are any plans for him to undergo imaging at this juncture. There should be a more definitive update on his status later this weekend. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Nationals 1B/3B prospect Yohandy Morales went 1-for-5 with an RBI for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Morales had been sidelined for three weeks with an undisclosed injury, but he has gone 7-for-21 with two home runs and four RBI in his five games since returning. The 40th-overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is hitting .297/.374/.544 in 89 Triple-A games this season with 23 home runs, 66 RBI, and five steals. He should get a shot with the Nationals at some point to end the year.

Seager also singled in one of the better offensive games of the season for the 32-year-old. Unfortunately, that’s not the compliment it should be, as Seager is still hitting just .202/.300/.395. It’s too late for Seager to justify where he was drafted, but based on his track record, it’s hard to imagine those numbers aren’t going to jump up over these final six weeks.

All three hits for Trout were singles up the middle. The future Hall of Famer has now driven in 44 runs, which says more about the hitters that bat behind Trout than anything else. It’s his first multi-hit game in August, and hopefully for fantasy managers/people who like watching historic baseball players succeed, not the last.

Joyce threw three pitches over 100 mph, including one that clocked at 103.4. The flamethrower has his first save of 2026, and while the Angels won’t provide a ton of chances for reasons that aren’t Joyce’s fault, it seems very likely he’ll see more over the final 40 or so games.

George Klassen picked up a win after allowing just two runs over six innings against the Rangers on Wednesday.

It’s the first win of the season for Klassen. The outing didn’t get off to a glowing start, as he walked in a run in the second and then gave up a solo homer to Corey Seager an inning later. From that point on, Klassen completely shut down the Texas bats, and lowered his ERA to a still unhealthy 5.86 in the process. Speaking of process, it’d be a mistake in it to trust Klassen as a streamer despite this strong effort when he faces the Astros next week.

The 31-year-old has been a pleasant surprise at the back of the Texas rotation, and now has a 3.44 ERA for his trouble. He’ll get a chance to lower it next week against the Nationals, if the Rangers’ rotation order doesn’t change.
