Angels recalled LHP Sammy Peralta from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The 28-year-old left-hander was just optioned out to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, but he’ll rejoin the Angels’ bullpen with Samy Natera Jr. (back) heading to the injured list. Peralta has posted a 7.94 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and a 9/3 K/BB ratio over 5 2/3 innings in four appearances between the Angels and Rockies on the season.

As anticipated, the 28-year-old southpaw has chosen to hit the open market rather than accepting his outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake. Peralta made 16 appearances at the MLB level between the Rockies and Angels, struggling to a 6.65 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and a 23/9 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. He’ll almost assuredly have to settle for a minor league deal this winter with an invitation to big league camp.

Rivero had one of the most out-of-nowhere performances of the decade in June, going 5-for-5 with six RBI against the Dodgers. As it turned out, it was his next-to-last major league game of the year, as he suffered a broken hamate bone two days later, and the Angels didn’t have a spot for him once he was ready to return. He and Peralta both figure to become free agents in search of minor league deals.

Peralta lands a spot in Los Angeles’ bullpen with Shaun Anderson hitting the injured list. The 28-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Angels back in late June. He allowed three runs over 2 2/3 innings for the Rockies earlier this year.

Peralta was DFA’d by the Rockies on Sunday, cleared waivers and opted for free agency. This will be his second go with the Angels; he finished last season with the club, giving up 12 runs — nine earned — in 10 2/3 innings before being claimed off waivers by the Brewers in October and later landing in Colorado. The 28-year-old has a 5.40 ERA in 48 1/3 career major league innings.

Peralta struggled to a 10.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 4/2 K/BB ratio over 2 2/3 innings during his brief time with the Rockies this season. He was removed from the club’s 40-man roster and passed through waivers without being claimed. It’s unknown yet whether Peralta will accept that assignment or look for a better opportunity elsewhere on the open market.

The procedural move opens a spot on Colorado’s roster for veteran reliever John Brebbia. Peralta posted an inflated 10.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 4/2 K/BB ratio over 2 2/3 innings for the Rockies earlier this season. He figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and elect free agency.

The Rockies needed to clear a spot on their active roster for the arrival of Sean Sullivan on Friday and unfortunately Peralta drew the short straw this time around. The 28-year-old southpaw holds a 10.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and a 4/2 K/BB ratio over 2 2/3 innings with the Rockies this season.

Peralta will get another opportunity to work out of the Rockies’ bullpen with TJ Shook getting optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. The 28-year-old southpaw has allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over 2/3 of an inning in one appearance with the big league club this season.

Rays C prospect Caden Bodine was awarded a Minor League Gold Glove.

Bodine is the 46th-ranked prospect in baseball. He hit .342/.410/.517 in 468 at-bats across four levels this season with 17 home runs and 10 steals. He threw out 19 percent of all potential basestealers and could be an option for the Rays at some point in 2027.

Red Sox SS prospect Franklin Arias won the MiLB Gold Glove at shortstop.

Another feather in the cap for MLB Pipeline’s 2nd-ranked prospect. Arias hit .323/.400/.557 with 25 home runs, 91 RBI, and nine steals in 117 games across Double-A and Triple-A. He will turn 21 years old later this month, but Arias is making a real case to be in the mix as the Red Sox’s starting shortstop next season.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Major League Baseball will not change the negotiating window for Japanese players.

Before the 2021-22 lockout, Major League Baseball amended its previous agreement with Nippon Professional Baseball to allow Japanese players 45 days to sign with an MLB team once they’ve been posted. The league will not alter that deadline this season. That means NPB players who are posted, like Teruaki Sato, Hiromi Itoh, and Kaima Taira, have until December 15th to sign; however, with a potential lockout beginning on December 1st, that likely means that all NPB players will have to sign before the lockout or return to their teams in Japan.

MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart reports that Brad Ausmus is interviewing for the Astros managerial role.

Ausmus previously managed the Tigers and Angels and has a 386-422 (.478) record in his five seasons. His first season with the Tigers in 2014 was his best season, and the only one in which Ausmus made the playoffs as a manager.

ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reported that “Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham are as good as gone” from the Yankees this offseason.

This isn’t a big surprise, but it’s noteworthy to hear it reported so bluntly. The Yankees will need to find replacements both at second base and center field, and the internal options for both, as Castillo reports, are uncertain, so the team may be looking to free agency for both positions.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that Teoscar Hernández is “the most obvious trade candidate in [the Dodgers’] position player group.”

Hernández signed a three-year, $66 million contract last offseason and hit .267/.334/.425 in 125 games with 16 home runs, 64 RBI, and a 27.5 percent strikeout rate. His defense has also declined over the last three seasons, which makes it difficult for the Dodgers to field a lineup with him and Shohei Ohtani, who is also in the lineup as a strict DH.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the Brewers “will at least listen [to trade offers] on closer Trevor Megill.”

Megill has one more year of team control under arbitration and then will be a free agent. Typically, that has been when the Brewers look to facilitate a trade if they don’t feel that they can afford to re-sign a player when they enter free agency. Since Abner Uribe is under team control through the 2030 season, the Brewers have a built-in replacement if the team does decide to make a deal.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that “the expectation is [Tarik Skubal] will sign before the Dec. 1 lockout.”

This will be the case for many free agents, who will look to lock in multi-year contracts before a new collective bargaining agreement may change the financial landscape of the league. Skubal is likely the number one option on the market, and Passan reports that the Dodgers, Mets, and Cubs are all highly interested in the left-hander, but that the Cubs “are skeptical that they will be willing to compete at the sort of dollars Skubal is expected to get.”

Cubs declined their option on RHP Colin Rea

Rea pitched 137 innings for the Cubs this season, making 19 starts. He posted a 4.34 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 101/47 K/BB ratio. He has been a reliable arm in a variety of roles over his career, so he is bound to get another shot somewhere as a depth option for a pitching staff.

Franmil Reyes has reportedly agreed to a four-year extension with the Nippon Ham Fighters set to pay him about $10 million per year.

We always hoped Reyes would surface again in MLB, but it doesn’t seem that’s going to happen with the Fighters making a record commitment to keeping him; this appears to be the biggest contract ever given to a NPB player, foreign or domestic. Reyes, now 31, led the Pacific League in homers and RBI in 2025 and won a batting title while hitting .313/.375/.571 last season. Reyes slugged 37 homers for the Padres and Guardians in 2019 and 31 for Cleveland in 2021, but he left for Japan after struggling in 2022 and then spending much of 2023 in the minors. He hit .249/.310/.464 with 108 homers in 548 major league games.
