Robert Gasser exits in fourth versus Mariners

Gasser gave up a pair of homers, but he struck out seven and walked just one while working into the seventh for the second time this season. He has another fairly tough matchup next week against the Braves, so though he’s pitching well of late, he’s a mediocre option in mixed leagues then.

Gasser gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out three. The 27-year-old left-hander allowed all three runs in the third inning. Gasser allowed two runners on, but got the next two batters out. Then he hit Austin Martin to load the bases, his second hit batter of the inning. Gasser proceeded to walk Ryan Jeffers before a two-run double by Royce Lewis made the score 3-0. He recovered to escape the inning and not allow another run, but was removed with two outs in the fifth inning after throwing 94 pitches. Gasser has a 4.57 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Dodgers on the road next weekend.

May might have peaked in May, but he’s still done quite well in posting a 2.92 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings in his last five starts. The Brewers don’t ask for lengthy outings from their starters, which should work in May’s favor. His fantasy value should increase a tad with the deal, though there is the risk that the Brewers will occasionally pull him with a lead in the fifth. The Brewers will have to decide whether to go to a six-man rotation for now or to have May replace Robert Gasser.

It was a solid start for Gasser, but one that doesn’t come with a win because the Brewers were (surprisingly) unable to solve Brett Suter and Brett Kerry while he was in the game. Still, it was another solid outing for Gasser; one that saw him strike out six and scatter four hits while issuing two walks. Assuming there’s no change to the rotation order — a big if considering what point of the season it is — he’ll face the Pirates on Thursday.

Gasser gave up five hits, walked none and struck out four. He improved to 3-4 with the win. Gasser allowed two runs on a two-run single in the fourth inning, but otherwise kept the Rockies off the scoreboard. The 27-year-old left-hander has three starts with at least five innings pitched and no more than two runs allowed in July, but he allowed seven runs in his other start and has a 4.98 ERA for the month. Gasser has a 4.71 ERA this season. He’s lined up to face the Angels on the road on Friday.

Gasser getting a no-decision could be considered hard luck, but it was very close to being a loss with Eury Pérez blanking the Brewers over his six frames. The only run allowed was a solo homer by Esteury Ruiz, and outside of that the southpaw allowed just two more hits while striking out five in those innings. Gasser will try and keep this going and further lower his 4.91 ERA in a scheduled start against the Rockies over the weekend, and that start will be in Milwaukee.

Arnold also indicated that fellow acquisition Colton Gordon will likely head to Triple-A for now. If McCullers, who has been on the IL for two months with shoulder inflammation, is activated, one imagines he’d be part of a six-man rotation the first time through. He could bump Robert Gasser afterwards if he proves worthy. McCullers made his last start July 7, giving up four runs — two earned — in four innings for Triple-A Sugar Land.

Gasser struck out three batters in the abbreviated outing and didn’t walk a batter. The Pirates got to him for four runs in the second inning — including a two-run blast from Henry Davis. He then allowed the first three hitters to reach in the fourth, including a solo homer from Marcell Ozuna, before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Gasser generated seven whiffs on 58 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He finishes the first half with a disappointing 5.24 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 43/14 K/BB ratio over 46 1/3 innings in his nine starts for the Brewers.

Gasser has been up-and-down for Milwaukee over the last few weeks, turning in a respectable 4.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 40/14 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings over eight starts. The 27-year-old former top pitching prospect provides Milwaukee with some additional depth heading into Saturday’s doubleheader against the Pirates and could wind up joining their rotation in place of an injured Kyle Harrison (forearm) coming out of next week’s All-Star break.

Gasser was only up to start the second game of the twin billing, and he made the most of his opportunity. He allowed only four hits, and outside of a two-run blast from Nelson Velázquez, he didn’t have much issue keeping the Cardinals’ bats silent. Gasser has done a solid job when called upon in 2026, but there’s no guarantee when — or if — he’s going to make more starts for the Brew Crew going forward. He’s definitely worth consideration if/when those opportunities present themselves.
