Miller figures to be part of Chicago’s plan to replace shortstop Dansby Swanson although he’s unlikely to spend any actual time at that spot. He’s more of a bench option and part-time second base fill-in. He got into nine games for the Rockies last year before signing a minor league pact with the Cubs prior to spring training.

Cubs signed INF Owen Miller to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 29-year-old is a .238/.287/.342 hitter with 15 homers and a 21.3 percent strikeout rate in 1,032 MLB plate appearances, but he can play a few positions around the infield and has been a solid minor league hitter over his career. He could provide infield depth at a few spots if he wins a minor league job.

Rockies re-signed INF Owen Miller to a minor league contract.

Miller opted for free agency after being outright by the Rockies last week, but he’s rejoining the club’s Triple-A affiliate now. That’s where he opened the season before he was called up in late April. He went 2-for-14 in nine games for the Rockies before being DFA’d.

Miller went 2-for-14 with an RBI and one steal during a nine-game stint with the Rockies before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster last Friday. The 28-year-old infielder will remain at Triple-A Albuquerque as emergency organizational depth.

Miller, like most hitters on the Rockies this season, struggled mightily in the chances that he was given — slashing a miserable .143/.294/.143 with zero homers, one RBI and a 4/2 K/BB ratio in 17 plate appearances. He’ll likely pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra infield depth for the Rockies.

Rockies selected the contract of INF Owen Miller from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Miller, 28, will add some depth and versatility to a depleted Rockies’ infield. Through his first 22 games at Triple-A Albuquerque, Miller was hitting .244/.322/.372 with two homers, 13 RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Thairo Estrada was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster.

The Rockies continue to make completely baffling roster decisions. Their latest masterpiece involves the combination of jettisoning Nolan Jones to Cleveland at the absolute nadir of his trade value before shipping one of their top prospects in Veen to Triple-A instead of letting him play everyday in the majors. It’ll be Jordan Beck opening the year in right field with journeyman Nick Martini in left field. You can’t make this stuff up, seriously.

Miller, who turns 28 this month, was a non-factor last season, going 5-for-27 in 14 games for the Brewers. The utilityman is a lifetime .239/.287/.345 hitter in 294 major league games dating back to 2021, and he’ll probably compete for a bench job in spring training.

The versatile 27-year-old was removed from the team’s 40-man roster on Monday to make room for Garrett Mitchell. He passed through waivers unclaimed though and will continue to function as extra depth for the Brewers at the Triple-A level.

Hernández also walked twice tonight before delivering a game-ending hit to score Tommy Edman and Mookie Betts in the bottom of the ninth. The knock off Riley O’Brien kept the Dodgers from being swept in the three-game series. It’s the first time since July 3 that he’s driven in multiple baserunners (thus not including himself) in a game.

Dodgers analyst Jessica Mendoza believed Skubal was tipping his changeup tonight, so that might be something to look out for. Still, all 10 hits Skubal allowed were singles, and he more than held his own in ending up with six strikeouts and one walk. He’ll face the Reds next week.

Edman got up to 108.5 mph and 106.9 mph on a couple of his liners tonight. He’s batting .279/.355/.411 with 35 runs scored and 29 RBI in his 63 games since returning from ankle surgery. He doesn’t get a ton of credit, but he’s an awfully valuable fantasy MI while healthy.

Riley O’Brien took his sixth blown save and seventh loss after giving up two runs in the ninth Thursday against the Dodgers.

O’Brien has given up 10 runs in his last five appearances, taking his ERA from 2.96 to 4.18. The Cardinals have no desire to replace him in the closer’s role, so he’ll probably be left there for now. However, another bad outing right away might not leave them with any choice but to make a move.

The A’s got solo homers from Zack Gelof and Donovan Walton, but Butler’s 107-mph liner up the middle in the fifth was the biggest blow. Butler has hit in 12 straight games and 21 of 23. He’s batted .345 with five homers and 19 RBI since Aug. 10.

Perkins struck out seven, but pretty much everyone else reached against him; he gave up four hits, five walks and a HBP to the other 12 batters he faced. Perkins has a 6.50 ERA in 13 starts and 20 relief appearances for the season. It’s probably time for the A’s to commit to him as a short reliever, since he doesn’t seem like he’s going to be worth keeping around as a starter.
