Uribe (elbow) will begin rehab at High-A

Romero, who had his appendix removed in July, will be making his Brewers debut after being acquired from the Cardinals at the deadline. The veteran setup man has a 3.35 ERA in 44 appearances this season.

Uribe returns to Milwaukee’s high-leverage equation after missing just over two weeks with a flexor strain. The 26-year-old has posted a sparkling 2.05 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 48/18 K/BB ratio across 48 1/3 innings of work. He’s one of the best setup specialists in baseball and has also converted six saves this season. He’ll likely continue helping bridge the gap to closer Trevor Megill heading towards the postseason.

Uribe, on the IL with a mild flexor strain, will work again tonight after having some issues following his scoreless inning for High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday. “He didn’t feel great the next day,” manager Pat Murphy said.

The hope was that Uribe would only need a minimum stay on the injured list after going out with a mild flexor strain last week. Throwing a bullpen only a few days later is a great sign that one of the league’s best setup men will be back soon.

Oof. Uribe has been one of the top setup men in baseball this season, so his absence is going to leave a major hole at the back end of the Brewers’ bullpen. No word yet on how long he’s expected to be sidelined for. Grant Anderson was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

Romero completed a bullpen session earlier this week and should be ready for minor league game action next week. The 29-year-old has been on the shelf with appendicitis sine mid-July. He came over from the division-rival Cardinals in the Dustin May deal at the trade deadline last week.

Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale are going to St. Louis, according to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. May could replace Robert Gasser in the Brewers rotation or the team could shift back to a six-man setup for now. Romero will take some pressure off Aaron Ashby in relief once he comes off the IL.

No word yet from the Cardinals on how long they anticipate Romero being shelved for. Scott Blewett was promoted from Triple-A Memphis to take his spot in the Cardinals’ bullpen while Yohel Pozo was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Trevor Megill was due to have today off after throwing 31 pitches the last two days, though maybe, with the doubleheader, the Brewers would consider him in the nightcap. Aaron Ashby set up for Uribe in this one, so if the Brewers want to play it safe, it might be Grant Anderson or Jared Koenig on the mound in a save situation tonight. Uribe’s save today was his first since his inappropriate celebration against the Cardinals on May 19 resulted in a one-game suspension and cost him some standing in the Milwaukee pen.
