Omaha on Sunday. Did Peyton Manning come out of retirement? Gonsolin, who was a fixture in Los Angeles’ rotation mix from 2019-2025, figures to make his Kansas City debut at some point later next week. He tossed five shutout innings for Triple-A Omaha earlier this week. He’s in line to face the Pirates in his return to the majors, which would be a decent spot for streaming purposes, even if he doesn’t offer significant strikeout upside.

Tony Gonsolin (elbow) threw five shutout innings for Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, allowing just three hits and striking out two.

Gonsolin threw 64 pitches in this one, with 66 percent of them landing for strikes. His four-seamer sat just 91.9 mph, but he commanded it well and got a few whiffs. The splitter was his best swing-and-miss offering, and he commanded that well too. He also showed off slightly different movement profiles on his curve and slider, which could be worth keeping an eye on. Coming off last year’s elbow surgery, it seems likely that Gonsolin could be up with the Royals for his next start or the one after.

Tony Gonsolin (elbow) fired three scoreless innings in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Gonsolin struck out three and didn’t hand out a free pass during the 40-pitch outing. The 32-year-old ex-Dodgers starter signed a one-year pact with Kansas City earlier this month as he continues working his way back from last year’s elbow surgery. There’s a strong possibility he’s up with the Royals at some point in September.

Gonsolin signed a one-year contract with Kanas City earlier this month. He’s working his way back from last year’s internal brace procedure on his elbow. There’s a chance he’s able to make it back before the end of the regular season, but he’s unlikely to offer any semblance of fantasy value.

The deal also includes a club option for the 2027 season. Gonsolin is still in the process of recovering from the internal brace procedure on his right elbow. The Royals will bring him in and get a first-hand look at his rehab and recovery and if all goes well they could stumble into an intriguing rotation option for the 2027 season.

Gonsolin is expected to miss a significant portion of next season after undergoing an internal brace procedure on his right elbow back in early August. The 31-year-old right-hander was a key component of the Dodgers’ pitching staff from 2019-2023 when he compiled a strong 3.19 RA across 375 2/3 innings over 79 appearances (71 starts). He’s been limited to just seven starts over the past two seasons due to a pair of elbow surgeries. He would represent a low-risk gamble for another organization at this stage of his career.

Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Tuesday that right-hander Tony Gonsolin underwent an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his right elbow.

He’ll obviously miss the remainder of the 2025 season and part of the 2026 campaign as the procedure calls for an 8-to-10 month timeline for recovery. Gonsolin made just seven starts for the Dodgers in 2025, posting a 5.00 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 38/18 K/BB ratio over 36 innings of work.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Wednesday that Tony Gonsolin (elbow) has yet to resume a throwing program.

Roberts acknowledged that time is running out for Gonsolin to return this season, saying, “We’re going to have to make a decision with Tony soon. I’m not sure what that is, but we’re going to have to make a decision at some point.” The 31-year-old righty landed on the injured list in early June with elbow discomfort. While there’s no UCL damage requiring surgery, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that he’ll pitch again in 2025.

The Dodgers have been very vague regarding updates on Gonsolin’s elbow, only saying that his UCL remains intact, but this move indicates that he’s going to miss at least a couple of months while he is recovering. Jack Little was promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, taking Gonsolin’s place on the team’s 40-man roster.
